Could we by joining France and rejecting england have helped to bring down the british empire sooner? Could we have helped to change the face of the world and hasten the end of their evil around the world? Africa, India, so and so on.

This so called "special relationship," seemingly existing to protect british aristocratic power and gain some of that power for the young country is a odium that should not be forgotten whenever we are deciding to chose to be for or against freedom in the world.

3. But the French did help with our Revolution
so it was kind of stinkin' to turn on them.

Besides, by 1812 we were at war with the British again.

5. Supporting the American rebels was realpolitik.
We were convenient to each other at the time.

4. Ask yourself, what year did the British burn Washington?
Hint, it was after 1794.
