Angry protesters decry Gaza war

Oslo police clashed with protesters outside parliament during an anti-Israel demonstraton

Worldwide protests against Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip have continued for the 14th day.

Six people were injured and 31 were arrested when 1,000 pro-Palestinian protesters attacked a pro-Israeli demonstration in Oslo, police said on Friday.

Boycott call

In Malaysia and Italy, critics of Israel's Gaza assault have called for a boycott of Israeli and US goods.

"We cannot remain silent about what is happening in Gaza. We had thought of drawing up a list of businessmen who have links with Tel Aviv because people do not know who they are," said Giancarlo Desiderati, a member of a small group of Italian traders who called for the boycott on its website.

At least 5,000 people protested outside the US embassy in Malaysia on Friday, and around 300 held a noisy protest outside the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur to urge Arab countries to cut off oil supplies to the US and boycott Coca-Cola, Colgate and Starbucks.

Addressing the crowd, Mahathir Mohamed, an ex-prime minister, told Malaysians that they "will not die if they do not use the US goods" and urged those working for US companies such as fast-food giant McDonalds to quit their jobs.

Just what our economy needs! :eyes:

1. I thought dumbya said Libya was a success story
<snip>

Meanwhile, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has urged Arabs to volunteer to fight alongside Palestinians, state media reported Friday.

"I appeal to Arabs to volunteer to fight (against Israel) with the Palestinians," the veteran leader said in brief comments carried by the official Jana news agency.

2. The Real News video....
As the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip continues, so does opposition from the Israeli public. Protesters all across the country have been clashing with police in both Arab-Israeli and Jewish cities. Jesse Rissin Rosenfeld, Freelance Journalist based in Tel-Aviv and Ramallah has reported that the Israeli intelligence Agency, Shabak/Shin-Bet, has been cracking down on dissenters. He also reports that protest to the Israeli offensive has grown significantly since Israel’s attack on Lebanon and this time around Israeli protests in support of the war are also starting.

19. The Concrete Curtain
News of Israeli opposition to the wars and attacks never seems to reach the rest of us. Protests and demonstrations? Well the common knowledge is that they don't happen, and all Israelis sit in total solidarity with their government. This sort of info rarely gets out of Israel, and rarely travels far when it does.

6. True, but that doesn't mean that anti-Semitism isn't real
I really don't like it when it is couched in terms of supposedly just protesting Israel's policies. Which I really abhor, BTW.

8. Of course it's real
Just like racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia and everything else.

Israel's behavior being justified under such a banner, however, is an insult to every genuine victim of anti-Semitism throughout history.

First the religious right anti-gay people boycott them, now the anti-jew people. How will they survive?

10. there are worldwide protests against Israel's aggression
and then again we stand with Israel, this will blow back into our faces. Congress should be ashamed of themselves aligning themselves with undying support of one country instead of being neutral and seeing both sides of the conflict. Israel-good, Palestine-bad this is Congress's mantra.

12. it really makes no sense except for one reason
Feeding that monster known as the MIC is great for business in both countries. One can never make and sell too many weapons you know. So what if millions of innocents die, they are just collateral. I truly believe it is the warped neocon ideology and greed that keeps this Country's support of state terror by both Israel and the US. There doesn't look to be any change in that in my lifetime.

:(

14. No, don't look for it.

The entire years that I have been alive (more than 30) there has never been anything but this. Every seven years or so it flares to catastrophic proportions then it just goes back to plateau level hatred. I remember being 17 and watching docs with kids from both the Palestinian and Israeli side talking about how they were going to change things. They are now my age. Nothing's different.

17. I have twenty years on you
and have read about this conflict for the last 30. It helps to know the history especially in the last two decades. The US foreign policies are shaped by the Israel Lobby so the US will back them up forever, as they have since 1967. Palestine in all of its so called forms of government have always made concessions for a peace process, cease fire whatever and Israel consistently refuses to make any concessions of their own. The US fails to recognize the racist comments against Arabs over the decades by many Israeli leaders. They instead focus on calling the occupied Palestinians, 'Terrorists" who do not want peace.

You should read or watch Norman Finkelstein, Chomskey, Zinn for historical context.

Imagine if we had put a wall around Mexico and controlled access into and out of that country and food, water, fuel all essentials to survive. How would you expect Mexico to respond to being controlled, starved, terrorized and occupied on land that is theirs? I am sure the response would be not unlike Palestine's response to decades of this terror.

a beleaguered minority with laws dictating how and when you shall speak a language. Unless you've lived in a similar situation, it's difficult to comprehend the kind of hatred that can foment amongst two opposed factions. Add in a little gory murder on both sides, a few minor wars, and it's difficult to say who is right and who is wrong. It's a soup of emotion, vengeful blood lust, and a trail of money leading back to giggling investors. Sorry, I just don't see it in black and white.
