13. only 2 of the 6 different voters listed are Blue Dogs - 2 of 47 |
|
so in other words less than 5% of Blue Dogs so voted.
But don't let that stop kneejerk smearing.

That Blue Dogs were not the majority of the recalcitrant Dems on equal pay, and only a tiony fraction of Blue Dogs voted against it?
Right?
I look forward to incorporation of this understanding on future posts concerning Blue Dog philosophy since you like to think you are a fan of teh truth.

It was work. We could be waiting until 2099 if it weren't for Lily Ledbetter herself, who bravely fought to the Supreme Court and continued even after losing there, and if it weren't for the organizations who supported her and politicians like George Miller, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid, and the nearly unanimous dem caucus who voted for the bill.

32. I find it interesting that there have been a couple of threads about the five dems who voted against |
|
this bill and really no celebration that 250 Dems, almost every dem in the house, voted for it. And that with the new Dem Senate it is almost certain to pass (given it lost by only 3 votes in the senate in the last congress) and a new president, Obama, will sign it. But it's easier around here to be negative about everything.

33. Pray tell, why should we be jovial and celebratory about Dems doing |
|
what they're SUPPOSED to do--the right thing?
It's not like this was a difficult choice to make for anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together, and even a smidgen of a heart.
Of *course* there's more attention paid to the "negatives" in this case, as you put it. The ones who voted badly are FAR more remarkable than the ones who voted well. Honestly, would you expect lots of celebration if we passed a bill that officially declared waterboarding to be torture? I mean DUH--it's not like that's a terribly controversial position for a Democrat to take these days. What IS controversial would be a Democrat OPPOSING a law like that--and that would be what people talked about.
Our Dem lawmakers are not dogs; they don't need a treat and praise every time they do something that's obviously correct in order to reinforce the behavior.

34. because it affects people in their real lives |
|
it's acknowledging real progress, and what it took to get there. This was not automatic, people had to do things. I'm sure that many women in Lilly Ledbetter's situation did not fight.
If we only focus on the negatives, it give a distorted picture that progress never happens and when it does it happened by itself. How could it not? Everyone's in favor of equal rights for women, right?
It also gives a distorted picture about the parties. If we only look at the five who voted against it and go from there to bash the DCCC, it ignores the fact that the reason this passed is because the democrats are in control. Recall that John McCain opposed this legislation during the campaign and that the republicans nearly all voted against it.
Which reminds me, what about the three republicans who voted for it? What's up with them? That's good to think about as well.
