Please vote for "Created in Birmingham" - a harmless arts blog, which is the only candidate with anywhere near votes for the far right, mad-as-a-hatter Philips (only a little behind, currently). (The one blog in the list I follow - Nosemonkey's EUtopia - has urged support for CiB, because any sane person knows Philips is the Worst Person in Britain])

I don't normally care about online polls and awards; but the braindead followers of Philips (she's a favourite Briton at Free Republic, you won't be surprised to hear, when she's written a book 'Londonistan') have tried to make her 'the best British blog', and I can't bear for people to get that impression of us. A last, horrific, taste of what she's capable of - 3 weeks before Obama was elected:

Melanie Phillips is a columnist for the Daily Hate-Mail, and basically our equivalent of an American RW talk-show host. She's vile.

2. Voted for CiB!

I've read a bit of "Londonistan" while at a bookstore - there was one copy of it shoved into the current affairs section. It struck me that there was really no argument presented in the book; rather, it was a series of hyperbolic "can you believe it?" anecdotes that were supposed to anger me about the receding presence of the white man (the Briton, in her world view) from England. I'm supposed to be doubly outraged because the Muslims are going to declare the UK an Islamic Republic and force me to convert.

In this country she'd be wearing a white hood and burning a goddamn cross.
