1. Well there was a "portable" C-64
And I use that term loosely......

6. Oh wow, that reminds me of the "portable" Kaypro II!

Had a journalism school prof who had one of these. He was the first person on the Internet who I ever personally met--he was a CompuServe subscriber way back in 1982. Taught me the first things I ever knew about it through a couple of special classes he taught because he was convinced that this stuff he called "videotext" was the wave of the future. Now THAT's a visionary.

I'll never forget the night he brought his Kaypro II to class and "talked" on it to a fellow subscriber in West Virginia using the "CB simulator" (the CompuServe equivalent of IM). We were all amazed.

16. how about
Tymenet and Telenet. Compuserve had to run over something.

Advantis was pretty cool too with its history.

19. Didn't have a computer until 1990
So we didn't really know too much about the services around back then, it was just that CompuServe was one of the bigger ones that made the news somewhere.

20. I have one of those. Anyone want to buy it? Comes with a few games too.
barrels, aliens, snake, and word(something). Green letters on a black screen, oooo. Seriously, if anyone wants it, let me know and I'll be happy to send it off for shipping and, oh, something reasonable like a dollar.

That was my first computer: a full 2k of ram, and you could save programs on audio tape, all in beautiful black and white.

...he's the President, after all.

Every note, every email, every communication.....

I'm sure he's an honest guy and won't have the same problem with keeping full and accurate records that has plagued so many of his predecessors.

5. Obama needs a personal communications system that is truly personal
Something that will allow communications of the executive to be completely untraceable, untrackable and unarchivable.

Which is to say he needs something like the communications device used by Richard Cheney and David Addington.

Then again, maybe not.

22. I don't know why any Commodore fans should be upset...
According to a thread the other day, the White House computers are pretty much still Commodore 64's.
