2. The only problem I have with the $300 cr. for seniors is that it's |
|
not restricted to a certain income level. I know, most seniors don't have much income, but there are some who do, and I don't think it's wise to extend the bonus to the wealthy. My husbnad & I are both on social security and that's our only income, but so far, we're doing OK. I would rather see the $$ go to the people who are in really desperate circumstances. Poor seniors, people loseing their homes, the unemployed, etc.
Better yet, kick the banks in their collective asses, and tell them the $$ they got was NOT to pay bonuses and redecorate their bathrooms, but to enable them to continue to lend money for cars and houses, and if they don't want to do that, then can just give the damn money BACK!

4. Well, I'd have no problem with this at all as long |
|
as Congress included a provision that would keep Medicaid's hands the hell off of it for seniors whose spouses have to use it to pay for nursing home care. My stepdad is in a nursing home in only his sixties, and his teacher's pension is all my mom has to live on. Yet she has to give up nearly half of it each month to Medicaid, which is bullshit in and of itself. Any extra income she has would be considered in terms of how much she could contribute to Medicaid for his care each month, so this proposed stimulus wouldn't work at all for her and others in a similar situation unless such was specifically prohibited upon its enactment.
I think it's pure bullshit that she has to pay anything to Medicaid at all considering they both worked hard and paid taxes for over forty years, and especially since they were teachers, and I think it's bullshit that congress has so far only been interested in tightening up income restrictions and requirements even further rather than helping people, mainly seniors, when they need it the most, but that's another thread.

When mom died 2 years ago, I started getting $60/mo from my grandfather's trust fund. They found out and have reduced my check by $40/mo and say I owe them $1000 cause I didn't tell them. They're threatening to take another$100/mo out of my check until it's paid back. Last year I got $637/mo. I should have gotten a COLA this month to $674/mo. Now I get $634/mo, $4 less than last year. If they take another $100/mo I don't think I can survive. It's all I have. not even food stamps!
Obama needs to get real with us folks on the bottom. We've been ripped off by the republics for 28 years. They even fudge the cost of living numbers to screw us and have for 28 years! Even under Clinton that fucking repuke.

8. If others are getting $500 in a tax break then Seniors need to get $500 however otherwise |
|
I call it discrimination. What is the difference if a senior buys a loaf of bread and a worker buys a loaf of bread. It costs the same. Now I do agree those making more than enough in income to buy lots of bread and do not need the money then they should not get it.
