70-year-old woman fends off carjacker |
|
DAYTONA BEACH -- Eliud Haliday wasn't going to let her car go easily.
The 70-year-old Daytona Beach woman got tough with a carjacker, police said; so tough that the robber bailed out.
She was loading groceries into her car at the Beville Road Walmart when a man drove up and jumped into the driver's side of her van, said Daytona Beach spokesman Jimmie Flynt. Haliday wasn't about to let the suspect -- a black man wearing a black short-sleeve shirt and a camouflage hat -- get away with it and jumped into the slider door on the passenger side and put her assailant in a headlock.
Even though he said he had a gun, Haliday continued to beat the man about his head as he drove off, Flynt said.
His accomplices followed in their car as the suspect drove Haliday's car east on Beville Road, police said. Haliday's beating apparently was effective enough that by the time the car got to Ridgewood and Rutledge in South Daytona, the suspect bailed out and was picked up by his cohorts.
Haliday was taken to the hospital and checked out for stress, Flynt said.
(Now he has to face his buds again.... "Hey, aren't you the guy who got your ass kicked by that 70 year-old woman?)

2. I wonder if she was a retired nurse. |
|
Nurses are generally the ones we read about not taking any shit from bad guys. We have so much experience with them and we do know how to hurt them.

3. Hard to say. I put the entire story up and that's all there was. |

6. It would have been one thing -- |
|
if they had said something at the end of the piece to the effect of "Police are looking for an African man in his mid-30s, 6'1, wearing a blah blah blah."
But, as written, it reeks of Scary Black Man journalism.
