E-MAIL INBOX TODAY: STOP pumping gas on MAY 15th |
|
STOP pumping gas on MAY 15th
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all Internet users are to not go to a gas station for as long as possible in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the Internet, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump beginning on the 15th, it could take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and following days and let's try to put a dent in the oil industry excess profits.
If you agree, resend this to everyone on your contact list. "Don't pump gas beginning May 15th"

2. soooo silly. This has been covered here before. You will buy gas before, or after, |
|
so they'll get yer money eventually. One day matters not a whit. Stop DRIVING for two weeks, and maybe they'd feel that pinch (if everyone did it). Change yer habits, go hybrid, yada yada--THAT's how you'll make a difference. Now go out there and fight the good fight, you rascal!

|
change habits, whatever, and make the change noteworthy at the bottom line.

3. I frequent a local gas station. The people who run the station |
|
are local people and they are very good to me. I'm wondering how this boycott will effect them and others in their situation. They don't set these awful prices.

The gas gets the customers in but that's all. They really don't make a profit on gas. It's on other things-like the sodas, coffees, candies, aspirins, etc-that they make their profit.
I'd hate to hurt a local person who is already fighting the big boys for their small piece of the pie.
As to the boycott, I buy as little as possible and almost never travel out of town. If I cut down even less I'd lose my job because I wouldn't be able to drive to work.

12. If we eventually reduce consumption it will affect them |
|
When we did have an actual slowdown in consumption, there were scores of small distributors, dealers, etc. hurt and crippled. Is that really enough of an excuse to make an effort as consumers to affect these outrageous crippling prices? We make decisions as consumers to shop where the prices are lower all the time. We vote with our pocketbooks, so to speak. This is a legitimate protest, which most admit, will only be a protest as most will fill up the day before or after. I see it as a shot across their bow to make those in the business aware of the numbers of consumers willing to vote with their pocketbooks.

7. Try May 15-25. Won't happen either. |
|
Not just because of snopes, but because people wouldn't comply OR double-up on gas purchasing before then.

8. It would work better if everyone who can take mass transit actually did it for a week. |

But one particular company has to be targeted. If everyone quit buying Exxon...forever...it would definitely impact them. We must use our numbers to effect SOME change. Let's start playing smart. We have the numbers!!!!

11. It won't work. One day boycotts never do. What we need to do is a targeted... |
|
one company boycott. Make an example out of BP for example, by not buying their gas. Threaten to do it to the other big oil companies until they lower the price of gas. We can have an effect on people, but it needs to be a longer term boycott than one day.
