We should have stayed in the forests. We should have listened to our tribal elders (of all peoples, their source). Earth is our Mother. We are of the same stuff, flesh of her flesh. What hurts her and her other children hurts us.
In denying this very basic blood fact, we hurtle toward extinction, taking as many of our living brethren (animal & vegetable alike) down with us.
There will be few enough of us left to try to make amends. May the memories of those few be better than ours.
Regretfully, The Human Race

Pity that the Usual Suspects will soon arrive to snark this thread onto a siding. Would that the septics, in their precious and protected status around here, could just let it be--or at least honor their Mother.

Too bad it wasn't simply a natural act that caused it...that we had to take down so much of the environment...the true "Garden," with us. .. Good riddance.

9. Your post brought to mind Stephen Vincent Benet's "By the Waters of Babylon" |

A haunting post-apocalyptic story written in 1937. Well worth a re-read, which I just did. It ends with a glimmer of hope for the future of the few left to make amends for what man--not gods--did to Mother Earth.
Blessings to us all.

The Boomerang Effect
The future belongs to the Liberal Boomers Who’ll outlive the Right-leaning kind. Nay-sayers and Doomers Develop more tumors While peaceful old Hippies will find Relaxation can carry them Thirty more years, Voting Democrat every time. No right-wing Political Action Committee Can beat 30 million old liberal biddies. They’ll work with Young Hipsters And middle-aged “Middies,” They’ll join with the “Wombers,” Those yet-to-be-born. They’ll return to the time When they marched and they sang, And they’ll form a new movement, A new “Boomer-ang.” -- Beverly (“Bleeding Heart”) Jones
