Are any politicians with power pushing publicly financed elections? |
|
I think that the President, Senators, and Representatives should ONLY be given money to campaign by the public (taxes). They should be limited to two terms. They should be forbidden to be lobbyists forever and any proof of a quid pro quo should be prosecuted. The period for electioneering should be limited to six months, tops....maybe one month. I think most people would be for this if they understood the benefits, etc.
Also, if Corporation Z wants to advertise for a politician, fine. They will have to label their ad, however, and make it perfectly clear who is speaking for the pol.
If this were done we would all save tons of money and have our government possible work for us for a change. If we could get these reforms then we might give the various positions a raise. We don't want wealthy people in there to become more wealthy but true public servants deserve a living.
Anyway, who is pushing or might push such a thing? I'll bet nobody.

1. Campaign finance reform will not happen in my lifetime, but.... |
|
It should be TOTALLY publicly funded (might have to amend the constitution to do this) The public airways should be FORCED to provide equal free time to all candidates. I'm not for term limits. A lot of expertise is built up over years, and things just get more technical over the years.

2. I agree. I used to be against term limits. I might not support them if the public |
|
financing produces good results. This seems to make such sense.

3. I am very interested in the response you get to this thread. |

I don't hear any of our politicians fighting for, or even mentioning publicly financed elections? Am I just out of the loop on this issue?

4. Well, most of my threads don't get any response to speak of. You might try |
|
starting one of your own. You might have better luck. I believe this is a hugely important topic and one that could produce great results but we want to fight over other stuff, it seems. Oh, well. Thanks for the post.
