CNN Video: Tour of van der Sloot's "hell hole" cell. Personally, I'd like to see it more hellish. |

He's got a squat toilet and a cement sink, but those seem to be the only two non luxurious fixtures. A lot of people in Peru can only dream of a bed with a mattress up off the floor.
That cell looks to be about the same size as my last bedroom in Boston, just enough space for a single bed, nothing much else but an upended suitcase with a clock radio on top of it.
What Vander Sloot needs to realize is that no prison is going to be up to his standards. It's prison, not a hotel. The ones on Aruba are likely to be nearly as grotty, only with metal toilets and sinks.
Prison sucks, which is why the rest of us try to stay out of them.

2. Exactly. He's a spoiled creep who killed two women. Now he cries about being in jail in Peru. |
|
But since he confessed to killing a young woman in Peru, he will have to put up with it.

3. It is a hell hole to someone of privelege like Van der Sloot |
|
Maybe not so much for the "average" person of Peru.
I hope he doesn't end up killing himself. Decades spent in this very same room would be fitting.

4. I would think his biggest problem is going to be... |

What to do with all of his free time. Being stuck in a foreign prison, any library they have likely only has Spanish-language offerings, so unless he's already fluent in Spanish, they might not be of much help with all his boredom day in and day out. If he has family that can send him Dutch books and what not, he might be able to scrape by for the 35 years or however long its going to be...
He might be wishing he had been convicted in Aruba instead...
