Perry and White TIED in new poll for TEXAS governor's race!
Edited on Tue Jun-22-10 12:47 PM by Blue_Roses
Perry and White are tied in governor's race, says new poll
Giving Texas Democrats a boost in advance of their state convention in Corpus Christi this week, a newly released poll shows that former Houston mayor Bill White has advanced into a tie with incumbent Gov. Rick Perry in his bid to become the first Democratic governor since the mid-1990s.

The survey by Public Policy Polling shows the Republican governor and his Democratic challenger deadlocked at 43-43, erasing a 48-42 lead that Perry held in a PPP survey four months ago. White made his gains by picking up more independents and cross-over voters than Perry did, said the pollsters.

"Bill White has the potential to give Democrats their biggest bright spot on what will probably overall be a bad election in November," said Dean Debnam, president of the Raleigh, N.C., polling firm. "A win in the Texas Governor race would be huge for the party and instantaneously make White on of the most prominent Democrats in the country."

The poll also showed that only 10 percent of Texas voters want to see Perry run for president in 2012, compared to 69 percent who prefer that the state's longest-serving governor stay in Texas. Those sentiments cuts across party-lines, said the pollsters, noting that 61 percent of Republicans are against a Perry run for president.

5. White is a democrat and is the ex-mayor of Houston.
White should beat Perry with all of the ammunition the idiot Perry has done. Perry is just another dimwitted Bush who sold out Texans to the highest corporate bidders. Texas is also deeply in debt.

3. I'd like to see some Texas DUers weigh in
Throughout my life, where I have casually observed Texas politics from the safe distance of California, it seems that every time Texans have a clear choice between a crooked, opaque conservative (e.g., John Connally or Phil Gramm) and a progressive reformer (e.g., Jim Hightower or Sissy Farenthold), the voters choose the crooked conservative.

However, Rick Perry seems to be a bit much. In addition to being a right wing moron who demagogues the far right with talk of secession, he has Texas in such deep debt that the taxpayers can't afford to buy textbooks after the lunatics on the state board of education revised history. Perry is not only a willful ignoramus, he is incompetent.

There should be a good chance of beating him. Is there?

10. I think there is. I think his dabbling with the idea of Texas seceding
has caused him some damage in his base. I've heard conservatives here who are constitutionalists describing it as treason.

Hopefully there's enough of them been turned off that they'll stay home or vote for White.

13. Over the last few months, perry brain (what little there is of it) had left his head
when he hitched is 3 wheeled wagon to the ball lickers.

I have known several people that were lobbyists at the Tx Capital and they all say without hesitation that the man is a functional moron.

In an equally funded race, with equal exposure, with equal time, an educated mule could beat the idiot.

But Tx is such a hot bed of good old boy mentality, it takes another good old boy type (male or female) to beat him.

I think White is well enough entrenched into how the Tx political system works, that he has a very good chance of beating perry.

19. One Texan who is cautiously optimistic
It should be absolutely clear and apparent to any Texan that Rick Perry needs to go. No doubt about that.

But Perry has a lot of big-money backers. I used to work for a company that one of his most prominent supporters owns. To this day, the majority of the people who still work at that company will vote for Perry just because their employer supports him.

I find that sort of thing amazing. Because I would hope that Texans have the ability to think for themselves as individuals.

Bill White is closer in the polls than any Democratic contender has been for as far back as I can remember. Boy, it would do my old heart good to see Perry kicked out of the capital.

22. If White can negotiate with Hart Intercivic or ES&S, he's a shoo-in.
Otherwise, I don't like his chances.

12. White. Would. Destroy, Him.
That would be something to behold. Bill has really been on the offensive, and he needs to keep the pressure on.

17. Yes he is. And, I know this shouldn't be a part of it, a nice guy as well
I think the more exposure he gets, the more "likable" he'll become, even to the wing-nuts. I think he really has a great chance. Haven't been this excited in quite a while.

I'd love to see a debate too, but I don't know if it will happen.

The GOP is doing all it can to peel off votes from White, including collecting signatures to put the Green Party on the ballot.

21. I'm not worried about the Green party in Texas
If they take any votes from a candidate, it will be Perry.

We told ya'll in 2008, The Beast has woken. The Texas Democratic Party sleeps no more.
