Sarah Palin Endorses Op-Ed Suggesting BP Escrow Fund Could Lead To Nazi-Like Dictatorship
Source: Huffington Post

On Friday, Sarah Palin took to Twitter to direct her followers to read a recent op-ed from conservative columnist Thomas Sowell that compares President Obama to Hitler and warns that establishing a BP escrow fund could lead to further embrace of Nazi-like dictatorial powers.

"GOP: Don't let the lamestream media suck you into "they're defending BP over Gulf spill victims" bs," Palin wrote. "This is about the rule of law vs. an unconstitutional power grab. Read Thomas Sowell's article."

* * *

Here's an excerpt of what the conservative voice had to say in criticizing the president as well as the idea of creating a BP-financed fund to pay restitution to victims of the massive oil spill continuing to devastate the Gulf Coast:

That law gave Hitler dictatorial powers that were used for things going far beyond the relief of the German people -- indeed, powers that ultimately brought a rain of destruction down on the German people and on others. If the agreement with BP was an isolated event, perhaps we might hope that it would not be a precedent. But there is nothing isolated about it.

This may come as a shock to many people, particularly after Boehner made a show of almost publicly rebuking Joe Barton, but Joe Barton is hardly alone in defending BP.

Oddly, Republicans and the right wing media get a free pass in simultaneously arguing that President Obama is weak and wishy washy with frequent references to Jimmy Carter, then they turn around and compare him to Hitler. Yup, I am just waiting for the Jimmy Carter as America's Adolph Hitler commentaries...

Of course, the corporate media will never call out Republicans or right wing pundits on the inherent contradictions in their attacks.

Records will be checked and the person closest as to identifying the exact time that Palin would completely self destruct and become a side show will be notified.

6. So BP setting up a voluntary fund
as they should have done, is a Hitler like power grab? I find this surprising in neither Thomas Sowell or Sarah Palin.

13. She's a one trick pony - she's real comfortable in the mud but doesn't have a clue how to climb out
out of it. If she has to come up with a statement longer than the twitter limit she melts down into one of her rambling word salad answers.

Someone should ask her what should be done for the victims of the oil spill if the voluntary escrow account established by BP is not acceptable to her. Does she and her republicans buddies think the government ought to compensate the victims, or should the victims just suck it up and forget about it? Wtf do these idiots think should be done here?

14. All there moves and words are about rewriting our Constitution. Analyze it.
It's all there - a corporate run world.

The Federal Society would not probably endorse abortion and guns on their own, but they have to gain the attention of the camera through actors and actresses such as - Glen Beck, Limbaugth, Palin - and many political leaders. The FS has to include whatever their followers want - as payment for votes ab, and for closing down the brains of people who are incapable of thinking for themselves.

Through votes and enabling voices of liars, they brainwash their way to their new Constitution - with the help of Congress and the memdia.

The military - corporate congloms - bankers/cheating investors - think tankers/foundations - lobbyists are wll winning it big for reformation of the country with people like her leading the rest.

She is going to be very wealthy. But the people who believe her are going to be in the hole with us.

It's the corporate-military,banking, media complex that will demand absolute rule by death and punishment over us. They are the ones who will be shouting - Heil!

16. Huh. Back in May, she was accusing Obama of working for the oil companies.
Think she even remembers spewing this?

The former Alaska governor, speaking on Fox News Sunday, questioned whether there's "any connection" between Obama's campaign donations from oil companies and him "taking so doggone long to get in there, to dive in there, and grasp the complexity and the potential tragedy that we are seeing here in the Gulf of Mexico," the Los Angeles Times reports.

19. In case someone brings this up around the watercooler.
This spill is not a natural disaster. It was caused by the negligence of BP and the other parties operating that rig. BP and the others involved in this spill will be found liable if and when they go to court, and they know it.

The fact that the Interior Department and Minerals Safety Management Department did not properly regulate the rig does not make the US taxpayers the responsible party.

If an employee is injured because OSHA did not properly enforce regulations in a workplace, the government is not the liable party. The party that was responsible for the dangerous condition in the workplace is responsible because it caused the damages. Our law requires parties responsible for environmental damage to pay to clean up the damage and compensate the victims.

If you are wondering how this works, do a search on asbestos. You can also do a search on environmental cleanups toxic sites.

Could BP have forced the victims to go to court to get their compensation? Yes.
Was BP under tremendous pressure when it agreed to the fund? Yes.

But, establishing this fund is in BP's own interest. The damage to BP's reputation and to the reputation of offshore drilling in general if BP does not compensate the people in the Gulf as quickly and quietly as possible balanced against the good PR that the quick and fair settlement of claims is likely to bring makes this a no-brainer for BP. The coolest heads at BP know that very well. In the end, the fact that BP agreed to establish the fund will work in its favor.

Sarah Palin does not understand just how devastating this spill is. She does not understand how litigation in cases like this works from the companies' point of view, how they balance their interests -- their need to maintain their positive public image on the one hand, and their need to mazimize profits and limit the losses from compensation and legal costs on the other.

Sarah Palin doesn't just lack experience in this sort of thing. She lacks the intelligence to figure it out. And what is worse, she lacks the ability to feel empathy for the people of the Gulf.

Ironically, as Alaskan residents, Sarah Palin and her family receive personal payments from the royalties that BP pays to Alaska for its drilling leases in that state. Isn't Palin being a bit two-faced here?

Sarah Palin should be quiet about this issue. After all, she could be the victim of an oil spill herself one of these days. And if that should happen, I'm sure she would be demanding that the oil company that caused the spill pay her damages immediately.
