Anyone here from Grand Rapids, MI? |
|
I was there this weekend skating in a competition at Patterson Ice Arena. Driving up and down 28th Street, I saw a whole lot of political signs for candidates--and not one Democrat in the bunch! :(

Though, I lived in Grand Haven (a wee bit northwest of Grand Rapids, on Lake Michigan) .... the grand rapids area is ripe with religious insanity and uber conservatism (of course not everyone .... but way too many)

4. I'm from Grand Rapids! |
|
You'll find lots of people like that along 28th St. and other places out in the suburbs. And remember, all along 28th St. there's barely any homes, it's all business putting out signs supporting their Chamber of Commerce favorite Repub candidate. Come into Grand Rapids proper though, and it's filled with Democrats. The region is historically quite conservative, but it is changing. Don't forget that Kent County voted for Obama in '08!
Hope to see you back again soon! :)

6. I'm not, but almost all of my family is! |
|
Both of my parents were born and raised there, they were born in 1924. They moved away from GR to Springfield IL in the early 50's. Many cousins still reside in GR and some live nearby GR. Most of my family there are Republicans, but more of their offspring are Democrats now. Why? Because they are unemployed, and need affordable health insurance.
