Am I missing something with this Dave Weigel dude?
To me his appearances on Countdown are extremely underwhelming. He seems awfully impressed with what he must believe is his own offbeat sense of humor but to me he just sounds stupid.

Plus every time Olbermann gets in a dig about Tea Partiers, Sarah Palin or other loons Weigel manages to not too subtly defend them and emphasize that they must have a point because so many Americans subscribe to their political philosophy.

I know this guy is a blogger icon because he got canned by the godawful washington post for writing something derogatory about liberal media hero Matt Drudge, but to me it's not enough. He just doesn't impress me at all.

Is there more to this clown than I'm able to see? I want to find some good in him but I can't.

1. At the WashPost he covered the conservatives/teabaggers and
the GOP's preparation for the 2010 election. In that regard, he has an inside track to the loons and much of his insight has been enlightening. He is a libertarian, from what I can tell a socially liberal one. I think he adds an interesting dimension to the ongoing conversation at MSNBC.

3. He is a Ron Paul Libertarian
While I agree that his firing from the Post was BS, I am overwhelmed at how the progressive media is putting him on a pedestal. His job was to beat-cover the GOP and as a Libertarian, likely came with that slant, so I can see the backlash from the GOP pundits, but it is a mystery to me as to why he is being heralded as some kind of martyr.
