Is Howard Stern going to get the Larry King job?
I have to wonder about this. Howard has said he's been offered TV jobs. Howard is currently on vacation. The Larry King job is perfect for Howard Stern. It's right up his alley. If it happens, you heard it here first!

1. I doubt it will be Stern, speculation has been Ryan Seacrest of all people

he sometimes sits in for Larry, too.

While potential successors like Katie Couric and America's Got Talent host Piers Morgan have been tossed about, King's pick is frequent substitute and well-known mentee Ryan Seacrest, who Forbes profiled this week as part of our annual Celebrity 100 issue (See: Ryan Seacrest: The Man Without A Shtick).

"I can’t be objective because I don’t know his feelings, his interest in politics, but Ryan Seacrest ... he is curious. He is interesting. He is likable,” King told Tuesday's guest Bill Maher after making the announcement. "If he has a great interest in politics, I would recommend him."

Seacrest tells Forbes he could do the job. "What does is a radio show on television with newsmakers," he said in his cramped Idol dressing room last month. "It's a great show and a format that's comfortable."

8. Larry will not win.
And I'm not convinced Seacrest would or could handle that job. He's so bland and uninteresting.

14. What's your point?
He would be replacing King; so bland and uninteresting should be a selling point.

12. Ryan Seacrest--- a slightly more polished Kato Kaelin...
I don't get it.. (but admittedly, I've never been a big fan of American Idol, though I've watched on very rare occasions)

I think CNN would want a known personality that can touch on many topics and cover multiple issues. Howard is a mix of news, politics, and entertainment. He's a great interviewer and he's a lot calmer than he was 20 years ago.

He was also the popular favorite to replace Simon Cowell. This is actally a better format for him.

BTW, there's a poll on this site and Howard is leading: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_162-20009249-10391698.html

26. I don't know
Howard is popular with totally different demographic than Larry. CNN to do this they'd have to trust younger viewers to actually watch, because I have no doubt the audience that watches Larry now would have no interest in watching Howard. I just don't see CNN rolling the dice at that time slot. He might be leading online polls, but do online poll voters = same demographic that watches Larry King. I don't think so.

18. Obvious bullshit from Stern.
Just playing financial head games with Sirius to enhance his contract, just as he did when he talked about going on American Idol.

He wants to switch from spanking naked lesbians to interviewing Regis for an hour?

Nobody's buying that shit, Howard.

20. You've confused some things.
Howard didn't bring up the American Idol job. The media did. And Howard didn't bring up the Larry King job. He's currently on vacation. I brought it up.

28. At some point he was talking about Idol.
"In February, reports surfaced that Howard Stern, 56, was in talks to fill Cowell's saucy, opinionated seat for season 10 of the singing competition. Stern vaguely told listeners on his SiriusXM radio show, "I have been offered a job at one of the big networks ... to host a -- well, not host, but judge a primetime show." In April, when TMZ approached Stern, he retorted on camera, "I'm too good for 'American Idol.' "

I think it was around this time he was negotiating with Sirius, which made me think he was using Idol as a wedge for a better deal.

Anyway, no way in hell would he replace King.

Baba Booey...Baba Booey...

He talked about it. A lot. And why not?

What you quoted in that article seems to be a paraphrase. I think he was far more coy about what it was he was offered or not offered.

25. She's filled in the King on my occasions. I think she got
the show as a test run for taking over King's job. Bill Maher would be good too, but he's a bit more combative and darker in his outlook.

23. Have you ever listened to Howard Stern in the past 30 years?
I highly doubt he would get that position, in fact I think he would be better at replacing Simon Cowell on American Idol than taking over for Larry King.

First, Stern would get huge protests from the fundies who have protested him for years. Second, Stern has pissed off alot of people over the years with his brand of interviewing. Don't get me wrong - Stern loves that he has done this. But there are alot of people who won't do a show hosted by Stern.

But with Idol, Stern has the perfect blunt, in your face attitude that would probably work like a charm.
