So a freeper was arrested at an immigration rally and |
|
he had an arsenal of weapons. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=879805&mesg_id=879805We know he's a freeper because Kristinn stupidly showed up to be a character witness for him. The judge wisely decided to keep the guy in jail because among other things, the cops found a grenade launcher in his apartment. And we argue about immigration here. Do any of you who hate "illegals" get it yet? Or do you want to defend this guy?

2. Possession of such a weapon |
|
makes a "conservative" feel like a man. He caresses it lovingly, feeling its potential warmth; maybe touching its tip to his mouth. Paying a prostitute also makes a "conservative" feel like a man, as does listening to rush limbaugh.
Grenade launchers and assault weapons, its all right there in the second amendment.

6. there are plenty of lefties and libertarians that |
|
share that "manly" feeling about their weapons.
I had to carry/wear a gun, I had to qualify with guns, I was surprising good with my guns, but I didn't like them. I could clean them, dismantle them, load them and discharge them, but I didn't like them.
I will never be able to understand that fascination with weapons. Never.

10. you remind me of my dad - |
|
he was a "weapons equipment specialist" - at the highest levels of Armed Services. From Redstone Arsenal to the Pentagon, from Robins AFB, GA to Ft. Rucker, AL, Ft. Knox, KY, and Bluegrass Army Depot. He even worked with McNamara and Sgt. Shriver.
He worked on everything from the "re"designing of the M1/AR-15/M-15/M-16, to arming helicopters, the on-going (re)developoment of the Vulcan project, and even Sidewinder missiles.
His speciality was finding the bugs. Stripping it down to it's basic components. Ensuring it worked consistently and safely and as simply as possible. (Not bad for a guy who technically never finished 3rd grade, eh? :) )
He taught us to hunt and care for guns. He grew up in the deep south during the depression so hunting was a way of life for him. Though after he became an adult, he rarely hunted himself, although he was still an excellent shot.
All that - and he didn't really like guns. He saw them as a "necessary evil" that if you were going to have one, it should be workable and well taken care of - and you damn well better know how to take care of it and everything about safety.

22. that's how my father was |
|
he won marksman medals in the service, but he didn't keep guns around the house. when my brothers were old enough to find them interesting, he taught them how to respect them, but he didn't promote their ownership. I think the only gun I ever saw in our home growing up was a bb gun that looked like a western six shooter. Even that gun was put away safely out of reach and we were forbidden to touch it.

They hold Limpballs up as some kind of "man's man", when you know, deep inside they know that he would be the last one they'd want on their side in a barfight.
It's like McCain. He'll hug GWB, but you know if his life were on the line, and he could call either GWB or John Kerry for help, he'd call Kerry without a seconds hesitation.

27. Except that "grenade launcher" is an objectively meaningful term |
|
while "assault weapon" is not. I'm still not sure what they're calling a "grenade launcher" in this story; if it's an M203 or GP25, that's a big no-no. If they're talking about that flare gun, however...

8. Both sides of the illegal immigration issue have got "mad men". |
|
While I am largely in support of immigrants, since they are a net contributor to our economy and culture, I do not think it is fair to argue the the "anti-immigration" side must agree with me or defend a wingnut. Likewise, when some anarchist or other idiot does something stupid at a pro-immigration rally, I will not feel compelled to defend that idiot, though I may agree with his view on the cause.

grenade launcher laying around, never know when you might need such an item, traffic stops, block parties, noisy neighbors, the uses are endless...:eyes:
I was more fond of the M-79, as it has a much smaller signature as opposed to the M-203, which is attached to an M-16, making it more more difficult to wield during a "Block Party Sweep"...:D

23. I don't hate illegals, but I do hate people who hire them. |
|
The focus must be on the people who are devaluing labor by hiring illegal aliens as scabs. The reason Americans "won't work those jobs" is because the employers are offering subminimum wages for them. Take the illegals out of the picture, and they will have to offer a wage that Americans will work for.
As for the Freeper - is anyone surprised? Those people are all looney tunes and preparing for the "End Times".
LOL - "Kristinn", what a name for a guy. I thought he was from "Protest Warrior".
It does sadden me that so many of us who want the border enforced are so easily lured into scapegoating the illegals themselves, when they are nothing less than economic refugees. I grew up in El Paso which is 80% people of Mexican descent, so I don't feel the panic at the influx of Mexicans that people up north, where it's new, might feel. But like the majority of Mexican-Americans, I do support comprehensive border enforcement and deportation as a matter of principle. But I stop short of complaining about "anchor babies" (sorry, if you're born here, you're an American, end of story), or kids of illegals in public schools or getting medical care.
The focus MUST be on the scofflaw employers that are creating the demand for slave labor. The demand dries up, the illegals will eventually catch on and stop coming in droves, and then maybe the European oligarchy of Mexico will start taking care of their poorest citizens, or face a long-overdue revolución.
