Don't Leave The Party, Change The Party!
I really think this is the time to put PRESSURE ON THE DEMS....not throw your hands up and declare them to be "just like the GOP," didn't we learn the hard way that is not true? If Generalissimo hadn't stolen the election in 2000 we would NOT be in this quagmire today. So yeah a lot of them might piss you off (I'm SOOO pissed of at Reid right now!) but that just means they NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU.

So don't stop putting on the pressure DUers, now's exactly the time to BRING IT ON!!

Ironic that the people going on and on about having spine are talking about giving up.

6. most of what I've seen isn't "giving up"
I think it's more a recognition that compromising values to support a Democratic party that only pays attention to us when it's convenient is less than wise.

10. Not enough of what I've seen has recognized the need to...
...infiltrate the Democratic Party to the point that it doesn't HAVE to pay attention to us - because it IS us.

20. good for you
I've got better things to do than precinct walks for the local chapter of a party that doesn't represent me.
I'll still work hard for individual candidates and issues that I believe in... but the "party" no longer gets the benefit of the doubt from me.

If they don't represent me, as a party... what's the point of supporting them, as a party?
Wouldn't that be a bit like thinking you can change an alcoholic if you just love them a little bit more?

There are great Democratic politicians but the party leadership obviously isn't doing it's job very well and needs to be tossed.

3. Truth is I don't have enough money to change the party.
Hell, I don't have money to even buy party hats.

The professional Dems aren't gonna respond to criticism. They'll just do a David Obey on you.

Or one of hopes and opportunities?

5. What do you think we have been doing? Knitting?
Any idea how many of us have been calling and emailing and even visiting our reps to tell them what we want? Just this week alone, how many calls do you suppose the Dems got?

And in the end, what difference did all those phone calls make?

I am beyond angry and beyond discouraged. I have been putting pressure on the Dems and it didn't make a damn bit of difference. I can only bang my head into the wall so many times before I get a headache and have to quit.

9. I got ejected from the local party.
What terrible thing did I do? I gave them a website, for free. Ran it free, too. Ran it very down the middle, too.

The state committeeman didn't like that. He got me kicked. The state committeeman used to be a big repuke contributor. I have documented that, but never disseminated the info.

I am starting to have little but unveiled contempt for the Dem party. I am fighting the feeling, but I am only human.

13. Our former Tennessee State Party Chair donated the maximum amount to
the Republican candidate for state representative in our district and the Republican candidate for county mayor. We had qualified Democratic candidates running in both those races, and he contributed the maximum amount to their opponents.

So, I think it's all a matter of "bidness" around here.

We've got a lot of work to do.

I admit I'm spoiled by my reps (Boxer, Waxman) but there's power in numbers....we just have to DEMAND they tow the line or fire their asses I guess!

18. Both parties will remain owned by the corporations until we change the campaign-finance laws.
We should have a system like they use in France: Buying/selling political advertising time is ILLEGAL. All candidates in an election get an equal amount of FREE air time.

24. "putting pressure on" = VOTING AGAINST. there is no other pressure that politicians pay any attenti
attention to. you can not tell dem politicians that you will vote for them not matter what they do, and then expect them to represent your interests once in office. if they know they have a free pass from the dem base, then they know they can sell us out at will.

At least give them that. This was a huge blow. I know people have fought hard to change things already. It's not like they've been doing *nothing* up until now. Don't begrudge them their feelings of anger and betrayal.

30. Ok.
Of course, I've put pressure on them for years, that has been ignored. I've campaigned. I've made calls, written letters, attended meetings, directed my limited $$ for donations, and shared my pov.

I have been effectively "ignored" and patronized by the party in doing so.

What, exactly, am I supposed to do differently now that will change the party?
