Iraq veterans stage protest outside gates at Katterbach

KATTERBACH, Germany

— Adam Kokesh never thought he’d join an anti-war group, but combat changed that.

The Marine sergeant deployed to Iraq with a civil affairs team in 2004 and 2005 hoping to serve his country and make Iraq a better place.

“I got there and it was a different story,” the 25-year-old Californian said. “It was clear this wasn’t effective. ... I didn’t question it too much, and I regret that.

<snip--Kokesh is part of an anti-war group in Germany. He was part of a group protesting outside Katterbach Army Airfield, where troops are preparing for a 15-month deployment to Iraq>

“I’m not going to be a hippie, but I had to be a member of this organization,” he said. “I have a moral imperative to do this work. You have a unique power to speak out as a vet.”
