Iraq veteran announces around-the-clock march at California State Capitol starting on Memorial Day to remember U.S. troops killed in Iraq War
SACRAMENTO – In what is expected to be a dramatic Memorial Day showing of respect for U.S. troops killed in Iraq, a Sacramento-area Iraq War veteran said today he plans to march around the State Capitol in remembrance of those Americans – and the futility of the Iraq War.
He said he won't stop until he completes 3,420-plus laps, or has to be carried away.
Parents and relatives of current U.S. troops, veterans groups and others opposed to the war will hold a send-off rally on Memorial Day (North Steps of the Capitol) at 8 a.m. The public is invited.
The Iraq War veteran – who insists on remaining anonymous as "only a representative" of his fallen comrades – will walk a nearly one-half mile loop around the Capitol building for each Californian military member killed in Iraq (about 350), and for all U.S. troops (about 3,420
total as of Thursday).
