... because...

Crist hires former aide to top N.Y. Democrat

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who left the Republican Party to run for Senate as an independent, has hired a top Senate Democrat's former chief of staff.

In a just-released statement, Crist announced that his media team will be headed by Josh Isay, who used to work for Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. Schumer is a member of the Senate's Democratic leadership team and once headed the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Isay has a history of working with party switchers, too: He helped New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-independent, win re-election.

and

Charlie Crist hires Josh Isay, Schumer's ex-chief of staff, as his media consultant. There's little doubt if he wins, he'll caucus w/ Dems.

3. Kendrick Meek is becoming, for lack of a better term, the real third party candidate
If the polls show him 15% down the weekend before the election, his supporters need to think long and hard about whether or not they want to throw their votes away by voting for him, or voting for Crist to keep Marco Rubio out of the Senate.
