4. This is not news. MSNBC talked about this a week ago.
There was an article in a Louisiana paper which stated that they wanted to keep their marshes lush and beautiful but not to end drilling and we need more oil. Why is this, I found out...Well it seems that a good number of people Louisiana work on oil rigs. It's their livelihood. So that's why. People seem to think that this would end drilling for oil or something. 1) we have a need for the stuff, 2) there are people who need to feed their families and put their kids through school with an oil rig. There's a limited and one-sided view we have to get past. Plus the 100 million that BP is not going to cover all the people who work on oil rigs since some of them work for other oil companies not providing funding because of the moratorium.

13. The first wasn't a judge. Sorry I should have been more clear.
This is several news articles that were pushing this meme in Louisiana. And I guess the federal judges pushed ahead on this. However there was already push back in Louisiana against the moratorium.

21. Unfortunately there are not many different types of oil out there.
Not to mention we import quite a bit of oil as is...any more and we're really sink into debt here. Not that I'm trying to defend the usage...well I'm only giving the reasons why many in Louisiana are pushing for more oil while pushing for marshland. And we have judges overturning presidential orders.

5. Can't help but recall the nutters wailing about judicial activism.
BP went judge-shopping and wants all litigation heard through one Texas judge. It is clear there is a glut of rightwing corporate-compromised judges across the south.

6. It's not really BP influenced. There are people in Louisiana who want this.
They need drilling for a living. It was mentioned on MSNBC in an article last week.

7. Of course and that is understandable. That's why this moratorium is on new deep water drilling only
... although I confess I wish it were a full-on moratorium.

This decision really has Obama boxed in.

You'll have Dems in most states going butt ass crazy and screaming bloody murder.

11. Too Bad
There are people in Indiana who are losing their jobs because the Whirlpool plant is closing down and moving to Mexico.

This is about money for just one sector of the local economy.

What's next? Get another injunction to open up the fishing areas so that people can go back to charter fishing and catching oil contaminated shrimp?

12. I understand your point....but these people don't.
It's not like there is a fund to make these jobs redundant you know...sadly I doubt these people would like it---big government and all.

20. The very same people we see bitching on TV every day
about the oil spill. Pick a side people. You can't advocate for the very thing you're on TV bitching about every day.

22. Exactly.
I can't tell you how shocked I was to hear that people were protesting against the moratorium and want more and more drilling while they hate BP and want Obama to save their marshlands. It boggles my mind.

10. Yeah, because the one leak isn't really all that bad.
And chances are, another incident won't happen, even though BP is operating similar rigs at similar depths right now.

When the world dies because the oceans have been ruined by oil, then they'll stop drilling because there won't be anyone to use the oil.

Activist Judges = T E R R O R I S T S

Osama bin Laden would be proud, let corporate greed kill the United States, no need to hijack planes.

16. Here is the link to the story..
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_gulf_oil_spill

NEW ORLEANS – A federal judge struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, saying the government rashly concluded that because one rig failed, the others are in immediate danger, too.

The White House promised an immediate appeal. The Interior Department had halted approval of any new permits for deepwater drilling and suspended drilling of 33 exploratory wells in the Gulf.

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama believes strongly that drilling at such depths does not make sense and puts the safety of workers "at a danger that the president does not believe we can afford.

17. The people who are both complaining about not getting help quickly enough and wanting
the drilling to continue should expect NOTHING from the federal govt. if another disaster happens with one of those rigs.

19. The gulf residents can deal with their own mess.
They don't seem to be the least bit concerned, or even interested, in knowing what events led to this disaster so we can make sure it doesn't happen again and prevent future explosions. They do seem to be very interested in publicly pissing and moaning about their plight.

My heart breaks for the wildlife and the environment. Not so much for the Gulf residents.
