Rachel on President Obama: what a great rant! All the
Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 09:04 PM by babylonsister
accomplishments of this president! Very SWEET!

She referenced this:

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/06/25/a_historic_year.html

A Historic Year

Now that Democrats have agreed on a Wall Street reform bill, President Obama is set to have an incredible year of accomplishments. He's already signed major health care reforms into law and is more than likely to have energy/climate change legislation on his desk later this year. Not since FDR has a president done so much to transform the country.

First Read: "The agreement -- and the likelihood that Obama will sign it into law -- is yet another reminder about how much the White House and the Democrat-controlled Congress have done in the past year and a half (stimulus, health care, Wall Street reform, perhaps energy). You can't say this is a Do-Nothing Congress; Then again, Republicans would argue it's a Do-Too-Much Congress."

Mike Allen: "Two legs of the triple crown: This means President Obama will sign health reform and Wall Street reform within four months of each other. Plus there's the likelihood he'll get some sort of energy-climate bill by year's end -- an astounding year."

That was great
It needs to be spread far and wide. So many people don't realize just how much he's accomplishing, even if it's not everything they (we) want. We must re-elect him in 2012. Any of the alternatives would be too scary for words.

Still hoping democrats will gain seats in November too. He needs the support instead of constant obstruction. We need to work for that, not just give in. anyway....going to Rachels site now. Hope it's there! :)

51. Being very progressive,
a lot of President Obamas' accomplishments have not been seen as adequate to me. Having said that, IMO this administration needs to get the message out on their accomplishments. They also need to SHOW America how obstructionist the GOP has been when it comes to trying to stimulate the economy and passing legislation that will help the "small people." Unfortunately this message is not getting out there. This will be a major obstacle in the elections. They need to inform everyone about the many attempts that have been wrecked by the GOP.
Of course, (again) IMO, we need to (and can) neutralize the GOP obstructionism in the same way that the GOP did us when they had the majority. Make it clear that "majority rules" and if the GOP threatens to filibuster, either let them or come back with the "nuclear option." To allow the minority party to stop us from making much needed changes is ludicrous.
We were elected as a majority to fix this mess, we need to function as such.
The immoral wars that we are continuing, can not stop us from (deficit) spending in order to improve our economy. It is a proven fact that to improve an economy, we have to get money in the hands of people who will spend it, because they have to.
We also, IMO, need to return to a real progressive income tax. Like we had pre-Reagan. Making $250,000 the top of the tax structure is ridiculous. We have CEO's and others, making million $$+ "bonuses." We must progressively tax that income (at a higher rate just like in the past) so that the money we must spend to improve our economy (to the needy, 10% unemployment) will not be nearly the deficit spending that the current tax structure would make it.
No, we cannot afford to allow any Democratic election losses to the GOP (but we should get more Democratic minded people during primaries) but in order to accomplish that we have to aggressively reveal GOP obstructionism and tout Democratic improvements.

60. Maybe you and the other progressives could help!
Instead of always screaming about how fucking godawful terrible and useless and evil the man is and how you hate and loathe and detest everything he's ever done, which is nothing but warmongering and corporate handouts and that he's just like bush and you won't be voting for him in 2012.

Wouldn't that be something?

48. Of course. They are Democrats. The GOP would have failed
no matter which of their candidates had gotten their nomination. We had, as usual, many excellent choices, those three would have been ok with me as well, and they each would have been a fine President. One of them is the current understudy to the President, and has many executive powers at this time. As a Democrat, I'll not be questioning his ability to serve in the office we have put him in place to fill. Biden is the Vice President of the United States. Both of the other men are fine and outstanding Democrats. All three are part of our Party, Obama's Party.

than more challenging and appropriated standards. We need to stop skewing the center to the right, and start assessing Democrats by Democratic standards.

10. So many need to be reminded and educated on what this President has done and is still working to
accomplish. The democrats on this board trying to tear him down day in and day out need to be reminded of history. To want the moon and the stars is understandable, however, to have you
feet planted on the earth and get shit done is more realistic.

Rachel is as liberal as they come. Who on this board is going to attack her???

He gets shit done.
Love it or hate it, he's laying the groundwork for his second term.
I get impatient with him at times, and he's faced extraordinary challenges, but he's working.
Always working, unlike vacation boy who did nothing good, nothing worthwhile.
He's a conundrum for sure, hard to figure out what he's doing, but he has a plan and I'm riding shotgun with him.

Remembering back a year and a half, weren't we on the brink of having another Great Depression? Our financial system collapsing? Visions of long lines in bread lines?

Well, it was bad, but not nearly as bad as it could've been.

I and many others have been unhappy with the compromises. But sometimes I forget just how much has been accomplished in the face of almost total stonewalling by half the Congress.

Kudos to our President.

The US continues to detain innocent civilians (Which it knows are innocent) indefinitely, it continues to torture, it continues to kill innocent civilians in the Middle East, it continues to make the world safe for corporatism, it has become the most unequal industrialized nation in the world with the greatest disparity of income, and Obama is having a "astounding year", I don't think so.
