Please check in with how you plan to help elected Dems and beat RePUKES this year. Here's mine: |
|
For this coming cycle, I've already donted to multiple campaigns, sign posted for the primaries, and will begin lit dropping for our local state house and senate candidates in August.
I'm on the list to again volunteer for our local coordinated campaign in support of all our candidates in numerous ways later in the summer and into the fall.
I have contacted our governor candidate's campaign to offer a house party and suggestions on how to effectively campaign in our area of the state.
Background:
1) Six years as member/vice chair of local Dem committee. 2) Have phone banked, lit droppped, posted signs, canvassed, donated, etc. over multiple campaigns both on-year and off-year on state referendum votes. 3) Have blogged, written letters to the editor, etc. over six years. 4) Am a Democracy bond holder with the DNC. 5) Have helped run two local party caucuses. 6) Have been a delegate to three state Dem party conventions and active floor demonstrator for selected candidates. 7) Have held one house party with local media present and attended one other.

But that's no reason to be complacent. Worked hard to get Carol Moseley Braun elected in Chicago and intend to do the same here with Harry...hopefully without the post election disappointment this time around.

Eric Cantor is the rep from here. A chopped liver sandwich that had an R after it would win easily. What can I do? I am going to give my money and time to the opponent, but the will of the Dems is not very strong.

And I have worked for local legislature offices, but it's discouraging. I also annoy my representative with lots of letters, phone calls, etc. :)

I live in a blood red CD here in MI. There are pockets of blue among the 14 counties that make up my district and in those pockets one can do a lot.
When I was the Dem chair of our CD I held a fundraising dinner in one of the blue zones. They asked if I'd recognize the elected Dem officials from the county from the podium. I said "sure" and expected half a dozen names. They brought me the list of names (seemingly) a mile long! I was so thrilled. This band of Dems in their little pocket of blue had really worked wonders.

8. I'm not "bashing"anyone. I am calling out the incessant naysayers who constantly "bash" Obama and |

Dems because they are not "progressive" enough. I and many others who are sick and tired of the naysaying are fed up. See Maddow's video from the other day. She, who is darn progressive, touted Obama's MANY achievements. Sorry if all those achievements haven't been "progressive" enough for some, but I am one PROGRESSIVE who is behind Obama and Dems because as a "progressive" I like PROGRESS which is what I have gotten from Obama and Dems, and I don't expect far-left perfection which is what some seem to demand. All or nothing. Well that isn't reality. I live in the real world. Obama has done a god damn good job. Sorry he isn't liberally perfect enough for some, but he's damn good compared to what we could have had.

18. Hey I am one of those who isn't "satisfied". I have been a campaign manager for Democratic |
|
congressional candidates as well as several other local offices. Most for no salary I might add. I also have been an Executive Committee Member, State Committee member, and a District chair multiple times.I am a member of several Democratic Women's groups.I still am an elected PC. On a personal level, my husband has also run for office several times at tremendous sacrifice to ourselves, and he came very close to winning in a GOP district. We both currently are helping on the gubernatorial race and will soon help with a congressional race.
I know some alleged loyal democrats who lurk on this site that never do anything but post.I actually attempted to recruit from here and it seemed being keyboard warriors was where their only interest lied. Some of them have never even given the $5 contribution to help our Clean Elections candidates get funded. Just saying.
One does not have to be "satisfied' with the efforts out of DC to be working on electing Democrats ! I live in the "real world" as well and for some of us"incremental" isn't a"good enough", and I don't believe this is the "best we can do".I expect better and I demand it.I refuse to accept that we are the party of "just good enough" and "not as bad as the GOP". I demand excellence, and I have yet to see it but I am hopeful we may one day attain it.

world doesn't change completely overnight. This is a large and ideologically divserse nation. There are areas that would NEVER vote for progressive Democrats. And the governing process is very complex. This is why compromise and incrementalism occur. It has ALWAYS been this way in America. Remember how long it took to ban slavery, secure women the right to vote, etc. etc. etc.
Right now, with all we've managed to accomplish under Obama/Dems, our glass is more than half full. Chin up.

22. Compromise and incremental will bring us NOTHING. Sorry bout that. |
|
That is why I will NOT support any candidate who does not have MY best interests at heart. No matter what the letter after their name. For example: There is an anti-choice woman running for office in my state .She has actively worked with the post conservative of the GOP to sponsor legislation to virtually ban abortion. She has voted to support those measures. The Party says this is acceptable because of her legislative district and that she could WIN. I don't give a damn. I will NEVER support her. If I was able to,( but I cannot) I would campaign against her. There is no reason to ever support a candidate who does not represent the people. I am a great deal less impressed with what we have so called accomplished with the Obama/Dems.We had an opportunity , which is unlikely to come again, to do so much more, and we squandered it. I will vote enthusiastically vote for those Democrats who I KNOW care about Democratic principles.
I am no longer interested in candidates but I am interested in issues. I will support those who see the issues as I do. And as for change not being able to take place overnight. In my state , the appointed GOP successor to Janet Napolitano managed to wipe out years of pro-choice, environmental and educational legislation with a stroke of the pen. Funny, the GOP does "change" overnight really well. And another thing.. there was nothing bipartisan about it.They do not even acknowledge the Democratic caucus.

We all can play the Internet "you're bashing" accusation game, and then what? How does that help us progress politically? How does this advance a progressive agenda? How does your post advance those trying to win elections for the sake of trying to save this country from itself?
