Civics 101: The Amy Coney Barrett hearing edition

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/10/13/civics-101-amy-coney-barrett-hearing-edition/

And I’m Susie, a large cartoon bird! We’re here to talk to you about the way our democracy works!

Whoa there, Susie. Democracy?

I’m sorry, it sounded like you said a Republican president. I’m confused. Isn’t this civics?

Well, the president has to be Republican, Susie. Otherwise we can’t be sure he represents the will of the people! Just look at this map. Most of this map is red, and it is important that the biggest land mass possible be heard. People cluster together and make the map blue in certain areas, but that just indicates that they do not want their voices to count very much. Remember, Susie, Supreme Court appointments are for life, so you can’t be too careful when picking a new nominee.

Are we sure that is what they meant?

Absolutely — thanks to a little something called originalism. That’s when you stare at the text of the Constitution long enough that Thomas Jefferson’s ghost shows up and explains to you exactly what he meant by everything, and why he thinks Obergefell was poorly decided and Obamacare should be dismantled piece by piece.

Oh.

And did I mention that this new lifetime justice is a lady? Because I feel like we mention it a lot. And she has a family, which you will get to have too, probably, in more and more states, whether you are 100 percent sure about it or not!

What if I don’t think that’s what I want?

The people don’t know their own minds. That’s why they need the courts to interpret their wishes for them! And their votes. It is very important to get the justice through so that we can have all the prospefity we deserve.

How NOT to wear a mask.

I saw this Saturday. Never saw it over his mouth.

College football fans roast Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt for how he wore his mask

Tennessee Volunteers football coach Jeremy Pruitt, to his credit, wore a beck gaiter on Saturday for the Vols’ game against Georgia – but the way he wore it caused him to go viral on Twitter. Pruitt was repeatedly shown during the game with the entirety of his head covered by the gaiter, except for his mouth and nose. You know, the important parts.

Has any Dem actually mentioned "stacking the court"?

The family is taking a lunch break and watching the hearing.

My wife asked me what’s the genesis of this? Did a Democrat actually suggest stacking the court? Was there an opinion paper? Is this just ginned up as a divisive and distracting issue by the Republicans?

LeBron James leads 3rd team to his 4th title.

Lakers, LeBron James win NBA championship with dominant performance in Game 6

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/10/11/lakers-heats-nba-finals-game-xxx/

Los Angeles defeated Miami 106-93 in Game 6 on Sunday, outlasting the plucky underdogs to claim their 17th championship in franchise history. James secured the fourth title of his illustrious career, leading a third different team to the crown after previously winning with the Heat in 2012 and 2013 and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. The 35-year-old forward, who finished with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists.

Some stories are more complicated than others, and Game 6’s was simple: The Heat simply ran out of gas after a valiant performance in Game 5. Miami shot just 13-38 (34.2%) in the first half as Los Angeles’s defense flew around the court and prevented clean looks from beyond the arc. The Lakers held an insurmountable 64-36 lead entering the break, and their small fan section, composed of wives, girlfriends and children, spent most of the second half cheering expectantly.

The Lakers’ closeout win, which sealed a 16-5 run through the playoffs, was aided by a starting lineup change. Coach Frank Vogel electing to start guard Alex Caruso in place of center Dwight Howard, who scored just two points in 15 minutes in Game 5. Caruso started just two games all season, but his insertion provided cleaner matchups with the Heat’s starting lineup, which features four perimeter players and center Bam Adebayo. Although the Lakers used this lineup for just 12 total minutes in the playoffs entering Sunday, the versatile and hard-nosed group overwhelmed the Heat with its collective speed and discipline.

Will W. endorse Biden? CNN's Dr. Reiner "I'll go out on a limb and say ....yes".

A few minutes ago. Dr. Reiner was Cheney’s doctor when he was VP.

Not sure of the sit-in hosts name.
She read a quote from a former adviser to Bloomberg and the Clintons about George W. Bush, as elder statesmen of the Republican Party, endorsing Biden. Republicans should vote Democrat if only this one time.

Do you think former President Bush would* do this?
Dr. Reiner (pauses) “I’ll go out on a limb and say (pauses again) yes”.

Trump on-camera - Fox News Tucker Carlson with Dr. Marc Siegel evaluating Trump

I’m watching. I’m guessing it’s taped. Dr. Siegel will interview and perform some sort of evaluation. At least that’s the tease.

Lead - Biden won’t answer about packing the court. This is THE top story in Fox News world.
