Federal officials to Andrew Yang: Your math doesn't add up
Andrew Yang's 2020 presidential committee often summed its campaign up in a single word: "MATH."
But the Federal Election Commission, which regulates and enforces the nation's campaign finance laws, is questioning Yang's addition skills.
"Your report discloses a negative ending cash balance of $190,861.62," a June 30 letter to the Yang campaign states. "This suggests that you have overdrawn your account, made a mathematical error, or incurred a debt."
The Yang campaign, which did not return Insider's request for comment, has until August 4 to respond to the agency.

Huffington PostTAYLOR, Mich. ― Thanks to redistricting, Michigan Reps. Andy Levin and Haley Stevens are competing for the same congressional seat in suburban Detroit.
The race has gotten increasingly nasty. But the pair of Democratic lawmakers took a break from pummeling one another last Friday to attend an event touting microchip legislation at a United Auto Workers union hall in a neighboring district.
“Investment in chips is an investment in workers,” said Stevens, who went on to detail her role in shepherding the bill as a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. “I want all of us to remember where we were today, because this is historic.”
Levin celebrated the legislation as well, but also expressed righteous anger at the policies ― and politicians ― that enable offshoring of domestic manufacturing jobs.

Manchin schedules a "Full Ginsburg"

Since then, the full Ginsburg has generally been reserved for top government officials during extraordinary news events. The last person to run the gauntlet of all five shows was Anthony Fauci in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.”

Weekend updates from Eastern Kentucky: Death toll rises past 20 amid flood recovery efforts

Families, rescue crews and others in Eastern Kentucky are still picking up the pieces this weekend after flooding ripped through the region earlier this week.
The death toll currently sits at 25, according to a Saturday morning update from Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, and that figure is expected to rise as water recedes and more information becomes available. Four of the confirmed deaths were children, Beshear said – it had previously been believed that six children had died, Beshear said, but two of those individuals were later determined to have been adults.
Beshear is set to speak Saturday at noon. In the meantime, The Courier Journal has several reporters and photographers in the region this weekend – here's a look at what they're seeing.

No suspect found after reports of shots fired at Arizona Mills Mall, police say
KSAZTEMPE, Ariz. - Police say a suspect has not been found after an altercation led to reports of shots being fired at the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe.
Tempe Police say officers responded to the mall at about 6:30 p.m. on July 29 after receiving reports of a man with a gun. Additionally, people were posting to social media reporting an active shooter.
Investigators say there was an altercation at a Starbucks inside the mall between a man and another person, which led to the man pulling out a gun and pointing it at the other person. Before police arrived at the scene, the suspect reportedly ran inside the mall.
Police said it's unclear if there were any shots actually fired, or if the reported loud noises came from the sounds of security gates closing.

In the past five months, two-thirds of Democrat Katie Hobbs’ gubernatorial campaign staff have left, and several describe the campaign as an emotionally abusive atmosphere that got so bad, they were forced to upend their lives and plans mid-election and seek employment elsewhere.
The problem isn’t Hobbs herself, the former staffers told us. Instead, it was created by a new campaign manager who was brought in to turn the campaign around following a cycle of poor fundraising and bruising media coverage over Talonya Adams, a Black woman who Hobbs fired from the Senate after she raised issues of pay equity. Adams has won two racial discrimination judgements against the state over her treatment as a member of staff for Senate Democrats when Hobbs was the caucus leader.

Since DeMont was hired in March, eight people have left the campaign out of a total of 12 staffers.
We spoke to half of those who left. They all told similar stories about a campaign manager who continuously told them they weren’t working hard enough, or they weren’t cut out for the job, or they weren’t going to make it in this business.
Those who spoke with us did so on background, some despite signing non-disclosure agreements that bar them from speaking to the press about their experience. They said the stakes are too high, and the problems too great, to stay silent. By coming forward, they are risking their careers, not to mention legal consequences, to speak against a candidate they formerly believed in and mostly still like on a personal and policy level.

Sarah Godlewski withdraws from Wisconsin U.S. Senate Democratic primary

FITCHBURG - State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski dropped out of the Democratic U.S. Senate primary Friday, clearing the field of major contenders for the party's presumptive nominee, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes.
Barnes will face Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson in November. If elected, Barnes would be the state's first Black senator.
Godlewski was the third top-tier candidate to withdraw in the last five days, following the exits of Milwaukee Bucks executive Alex Lasry and Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson. The primary is Aug .9.

Sacked shadow minister accuses Keir Starmer of 'complete car crash' (UK Labour)
The GuardianKeir Starmer’s ban on Labour MPs going on picket lines was a “fundamental mistake” that caused a “complete car crash” in a week when the party should have been talking about increasing workers’ wages, Sam Tarry has said after he was sacked from his role as a shadow minister following media appearances at an RMT picket line.
In a defiant riposte to the Labour leadership as he once again joined a picket line, the MP rejected Starmer’s statement that he had been sacked for making up policy “on the hoof” as he stood alongside striking workers during rail action. Trade unions were the ones “showing true leadership at the moment”, he added.
“At the end of the day I thought it was time we were really clear about whose side we were on, and I am on the side of ordinary British workers,” said Tarry, giving fresh interviews after joining striking workers from the Communication Workers Union (CWU) on Friday morning in central London.
“I didn’t make up policy. All I said is that surely it should be right that we make an offer to workers in this country that matches inflation, because otherwise all they are getting offered is a real-terms pay cut,” he told Sky News.
