Scoop: Students for Trump Founder charged with aggravated assault

Source: Axios

The North Carolina-based Students for Trump co-founder Ryan Fournier is facing misdemeanor assault charges, law enforcement records obtained by Axios show.

Context: Fournier, who studied at Campbell University in Buies Creek, co-founded Students for Trump ahead of the 2016 election and now leads the group Radical Alert, which "exposes" radicals' hate that has "taken over American college campuses," according to its X bio.

Driving the news: According to the magistrate's order, Fournier, 27, was arrested in Johnston County last Tuesday and accused of assaulting the woman, identified as his girlfriend, by "grabbing her right arm and striking her in the forehead" with a handgun.

He was charged with domestic assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon.

Raskin rips GOP for not agreeing to open hearing for Hunter Biden

Source: The Hill

House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) ripped his GOP colleagues for rejecting Hunter Biden’s request for an open hearing on Dec. 13, when the president’s son is set to appear for a closed-door deposition.

In a statement Tuesday, Raskin called the GOP move “an epic humiliation” and “a frank confession that they are simply not interested in the facts and have no confidence in their own case or the ability of their own Members to pursue it,” referring to the Republicans on his committee.

“Let me get this straight,” Raskin said in his statement. “After wailing and moaning for ten months about Hunter Biden and alluding to some vast unproven family conspiracy, after sending Hunter Biden a subpoena to appear and testify, Chairman Comer and the Oversight Republicans now reject his offer to appear before the full Committee and the eyes of the world and to answer any questions that they pose?”

Raskin’s statement comes after Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, responded on Tuesday to a subpoena from the Oversight committee proposing a public hearing on Dec. 13, instead of the committee’s proposal of a closed-door deposition.

Rep. George Santos says he expects to be kicked from Congress as expulsion vote looms (possibly today)

WABC New York

NEW YORK -- Republican Congressman George Santos could face a House expulsion vote as soon as Tuesday.

Last week, Santos said he expects to be expelled from Congress following a scathing report by the House Ethics Committee that found substantial evidence of lawbreaking by the New York Republican.

In a defiant speech Friday sprinkled with taunts and obscenities aimed at his congressional colleagues, Santos insisted he was "not going anywhere." But he acknowledged that his time as a member of Congress, at least, may soon be coming to an end.

"I know I'm going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor," he said Friday night during a conversation on X Spaces. "I've done the math over and over, and it doesn't look really good."

Google will delete inactive accounts within days. Here's how to save your data.

CBS News

Google account holders, beware: If you have an old Google account, you have only days to use it or lose it.

Beginning December 1, Google will delete inactive accounts and all their contents, such as photos, calendar entries, e-mails, contacts and Drive documents, according to the company's updated account policy. The system-wide purge is intended to protect users from security threats, such as spam, phishing scams and account hijacking, Google has said.

Here's everything you need to know about how to keep your account active and save your data before the tech giant begins deleting inactive accounts on Friday.

Google is purging inactive accounts from its system because it says they are "more likely to be compromised." Unattended accounts often rely on old or re-used passwords, receive fewer security checks by users and are 10 times more likely not to have two-factor authentication set up, Google's internal data shows.

X Has Become a 'Global Sewer,' Mayor of Paris Says

Source: New York Times

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, announced Monday on X, formerly Twitter, that she was quitting the social media site because it had devolved into a “gigantic global sewer” for disinformation, hatred, anti-Semitism and racism, and a “tool for destroying our democracies.”

Without naming Elon Musk directly, she added: “This platform and its owner intentionally exacerbate tensions and conflicts.”

In recent weeks, dozens of advertisers paused their campaigns on X after Mr. Musk endorsed an antisemitic conspiracy theory this month, and the company could lose as much as $75 million in ad revenue by the end of the year.

Mr. Musk has strenuously denied that he is antisemitic or that the site supports disinformation, and visited Israel on Monday in an apparent bid to repair the damage. He met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who took him to an Israeli kibbutz where dozens of people were killed during the Hamas terrorist attack on Oct. 7. Mr. Musk was scheduled to meet later with President Isaac Herzog to discuss “the need to act to combat rising antisemitism online.” Israel also appeared to reach an understanding to deploy Starlink, the satellite internet service Mr. Musk owns, in Gaza for aid agencies to use amid cellular and internet blackouts.
