Pale Blue Eye.... Great mystery.

It's on Netflix if you haven't seen it. Excellent cast and a massive hat tip to E.A. Poe.

West Point, 1830. A world-weary detective is hired to discreetly investigate the gruesome murder of a cadet. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case — a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe.

M&M's pulls 'spokescandies' amid right-wing outrage, before Super Bowl

Source: CNBC

Candy maker Mars said Monday it is replacing its M&Ms “spokescandies” with actress Maya Rudolph after facing right-wing criticism over its mascot makeover.

Rudolph will star in the candy brand’s Super Bowl LVII commercial, Chief Marketing Officer Gabrielle Wesley told CNBC. It will be the actor’s first appearance as the brand’s spokesperson and “Chief of Fun.”

“The original colorful cast of M&M’S spokescandies are, at present, pursuing other personal passions,” said Wesley.

She noted that in the coming weeks, the company will announce “what the M&M’S spokescandies are up to over the next few weeks before, during and after Super Bowl LVII,” via their website and social media channels.

Women can be prosecuted for taking abortion pills, says Alabama attorney general

Source: Al dot Com

One week after the federal government made it easier to get abortion pills, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said Tuesday that women in Alabama who use those pills to end pregnancies could be prosecuted.

That’s despite wording in Alabama’s new Human Life Protection Act that criminalizes abortion providers and prevents its use against the people receiving abortions. Instead, the attorney general’s office said Alabama could rely on an older law, one initially designed to protect children from meth lab fumes.

“The Human Life Protection Act targets abortion providers, exempting women ‘upon whom an abortion is performed or attempted to be performed’ from liability under the law,” Marshall said in an emailed statement. “It does not provide an across-the-board exemption from all criminal laws, including the chemical-endangerment law—which the Alabama Supreme Court has affirmed and reaffirmed protects unborn children.”

The announcement followed changes last week to regulations of two medications commonly prescribed for abortion. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration finalized a change that will allow brick-and-mortar and mail-order pharmacies to dispense mifepristone and misoprostol, two drugs used in more than half of abortions in the United States. /SNIP

Wounded Virginia teacher walked her students to safety after she was shot by 6-year-old

The Virginia elementary teacher who police say was intentionally shot by a 6-year-old student is being hailed as a hero who saved lives by escorting her students out of the classroom while wounded.

Abigail Zwerner was struck Friday while teaching her class, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew said Monday at a news conference. "The 6-year-old child displayed a firearm, pointed it at her and fired one round," Drew said. "There was no physical struggle or fight. She was providing instruction to her class."

The bullet went through the teacher's hand and into her upper chest, "but she was still able to get all of her students out of that classroom," he said.

"She made ... sure that every one of those students was safe."

Anyone else watching The Rig on Prime?

I'm through 4 of 6 episodes and enjoying it okay. It's another ecological parable but with a good cast.

Tense moments for those that have worked in the petroleum industry.

George Santos' Sister Facing Eviction For Unpaid Rent Of $40,000

Source: Crooks & Liars

According to a court filing, Tiffany Santos has not paid rent in years and owes nearly $40k in back rent. However, she found time to contribute $5000 to her brother's campaign. And she received more than $30,000 in federal emergency rental assistance during COVID. Oh, and George Santos has consistently listed as his address on federal campaign finance loans her address in Queens, despite being registered to vote at another address. Confused yet? You're not the only one.

Scamming, grifting, etc seems to be in the family DNA.

Rep.-elect George Santos’ sister reportedly skipped years of rent on the Queens apartment the siblings once shared — but still managed in that time to dish out tens of thousands of dollars in political contributions, including $5,000 to her lying brother’s campaign.

Court records show that Tiffany Santos is facing eviction from the Elmhurst apartment for failing to pay nearly $40,000 in rent since August 2020, the Daily Beastt first reported on Thursday.
