Yes, and I will share something here I hesitate to put in General Discussion.

Tuesday morning, Election Day, as I left for work, there was a frikkin' bald eagle IN MY YARD.

I live in a large suburb north of Dallas. I have a very small yard. The urban sprawl extends way beyond us, although there is a golf course not too far away and one large corner field not too far away that remains undeveloped. Still. I've lived here over 20 years and never seen a bald eagle in the neighborhood.

I wasn't even sure what it was at first. My car was in the garage, so I got in and backed out of the driveway into the alley. As I pulled out past the trash/recycle bins, I saw something out of the corner of my eye in the small strip of grass between my husband's car and the fence. Something about the size/color/texture told me it wasn't a cat or dog so I backed up to see what the heck it was. When I got far enough back to see it clearly, I realized the mid-sized brown thing had a white head and it was a very large bird of prey. He was looking right at me with a "What are you looking at?" attitude.

I took off for work thinking, "Was that an eagle? Could that possibly be a bald eagle?" So I went straight to Google once I got to work and searched for birds of prey in my location. I scrolled through pictures of all the hawks--nope, nope, nope--and then I searched eagles. Bingo. There have been a few bald eagle sightings in my area and that's definitely what I saw.

Was it a sign? I hoped it was a sign. I've been praying non-stop not even for Dems to win, but simply for truth and justice to prevail in this country. All I know is after I saw that eagle I felt much better about how the day would go and so far that hope has been holding.

Really, Donald Drumpf? You think "Youngkin" sounds Chinese?

Your grandfather ditched the name Drumpf. Too German? And then there’s your new name, Trump:

For a long time afterward, all trumps were this noisy. A history of Richard I written 30 years later describes a regal scene: “They trumpyd, and her baners displaye of sylk.” When Myles Coverdale translated the Bible a century later, he described a similar scene during an ancient Judean battle: “The priests tromped with their trompettes.”

Even if they made a joyful noise, not all trumps were holy. “Trump also means, especially in British English, to, erm, break wind,” Maier told me. “That’s quite a common expression, and it’s related to trumpets as well.”

Trump has exuded this meaning for centuries. A Latin translation guide from the 1550s gave trump as a synonym for crepo, which it defined like this: “Trump or let a crackke, or fart.” (Crepo also means “to rumble,” “to resound,” and “to burst asunder,” in case you doubted what kind of trump this was.) All this trumping makes you wonder what locals think about Trump Turnberry, the current candidate’s hotel property in Scotland.

trumpery adjective

Trumpery derives from the Middle English trompery and ultimately from the Middle French tromper, meaning "to deceive." (You can see the meaning of this root reflected in the French phrase trompe-l'oeil-literally, "deceives the eye"-which in English refers to a style of painting with photographically realistic detail.) Trumpery first appeared in English in the mid-15th century with the meanings "deceit or fraud" (a sense that is now obsolete) and "worthless nonsense." Less than 100 years later, it was being applied to material objects of little or no value. The verb phrase trump up means "to concoct with the intent to deceive," but there is most likely no etymological connection between this phrase and trumpery.

Damn straight!

Trump should have been laughed off the stage at the very first 2016 GOP primary debate, if not sooner. But they welcomed him with open arms.

Holy crap! My district just elected a Democrat as our Texas State Representative!

This is Collin County, just north of Dallas. I'm not aware of any other elected Democrats in the entire county.

COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — The Texas House of Representatives looks to gain one additional Democrat this Election Day as one is beating a Republican for a traditionally Republican seat in District 70 in McKinney.

Projected poll results show Democrat Mihaela Plesa less than 1,000 votes ahead of Republican Jamee Jolly, about 2% of the total vote.

Plesa, 39, is a child of immigrants and after working in public relations with small businesses around the state, worked through several legislative sessions in Austin helping draft various proposals, including Proposition 8, approved last year.

Priorities listed by Plesa include improving the energy grid and water infrastructure, improving access to healthcare and expanding women's rights and equality.

Never forget that the ONLY change the Trump campaign wanted in the 2016 Republican platform

was their statement of support for Ukraine.

Trump campaign guts GOP’s anti-Russia stance on Ukraine

By Josh Rogin July 18, 2016

The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won’t call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.

Throughout the campaign, Trump has been dismissive of calls for supporting the Ukraine government as it fights an ongoing Russian-led intervention. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade.

Still, Republican delegates at last week’s national security committee platform meeting in Cleveland were surprised when the Trump campaign orchestrated a set of events to make sure that the GOP would not pledge to give Ukraine the weapons it has been asking for from the United States.

The big surprise for me is that someone would have an affair with Ken Paxton.

DALLAS (AP) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton had an extramarital affair with a woman whom he later recommended for a job with the wealthy donor now at the center of criminal allegations against him, according to two people who said Paxton told them about the relationship.

The two people, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity due to fears about retaliation, said the high-profile Republican official acknowledged the affair in 2018 to senior members of his office and political staff. They said he told them that he had ended the affair with the woman, who then worked for a GOP state senator.

Austin developer Nate Paul said in a deposition this week that Paxton recommended the woman for her job with Paul’s real estate company, according to a transcript of his deposition obtained by the AP. The woman had stopped working as a Senate aide at the end of 2019, though her reason for departing wasn’t immediately clear.

Is spousal immunity the glue keeping the Paxton’s marriage together?

Four years. For four years, the world's mightiest military was under the command

of a sadistic, impulsive child. Nearly every elected Republican and other leading Republicans accepted this, enabled it and publicly pretended it wasn’t so. Most mainstream media went along with the game and treated his unfitness as “gaffes” and opposition from Democrats as “politics as usual”. Every day we learn more things that many, many people already knew about and did nothing at the time except keep notes for the book they planned to write.
