Trump thinks he can change reality with press releases and announcements.

Remember the pressure he was putting on Zelensky in 2019? He wanted Zelensky to publicly announce that they were going to investigate the Bidens. It came out later that Trump wasn’t nearly as interested in Ukraine actually doing an investigation—most likely because he knew they wouldn’t find a level of wrongdoing anywhere near the claims he was going to make on the campaign trail.

He does this over and over again. Makes a big announcement about something he wants to happen, the media makes a big fuss over it, and then when it really doesn’t happen, the media can’t be bothered to care.

And now he can even make money off of it by placing well-timed Polymarket bets.

What artistic programming?

Wikipedia has a list of 41 artists that canceled their performances at the Kennedy Center due to Trump’s interference, and that was events already scheduled. It will be even harder to find artists willing to consider booking shows there in the future as long as Trump’s name stays associated with it.

Raising billions of dollars for an institution that has no events makes one wonder where those billions of dollars will actually go.

🤔

Ha! Reminds me of the time I got caught up in a group of pro football players at the airport.

This happened in the mid 80s, but I wrote about it last year:

Keep in mind, I pay zero attention to sports. A little drifts in if it's covered in the local news before the weather forecast, but that's it. I was in the Chicago area for graduate school. I'd driven to Midway Airport to pick up my roommate. It did seem like the traffic on the way to the airport was heavier than usual. All I know is, I was headed down the hallway to where her gate was, and there were a bunch of big guys blocking my way. They were going a little slower than I wanted to go, but I couldn't get around them.

I noticed the crowds on either side of the hallway were getting larger. So then I took a longer look at these men in my way. Some of them definitely had a private security vibe going on. And then I finally recognized Jim McMahon, but really only because he'd been in Rolling Stone magazine. So I dropped back a bit, but kept going--I didn't want to be late to meet my roommate!

The guys in front of me made it to their gate. The crowd was really big by this time. Security was keeping people back and because this was between me and the gate where my roommate was coming in, I couldn't go any further. So I made a U-turn and walked back the way I'd come, with probably a lot of people wondering what that girl's connection to the team was.

Found out later that they were all flying to Europe for an exhibition game. It was after the Chicago Bears won the Super Bowl and a bunch of fans showed up to see them off. (Why would you do that???) The crowd cleared after the team boarded the plane and I finally found my roommate. Whew!

Oh, the U.S. Travel Association. *eye roll*

On March 14, 2025 I took a screenshot of their Winter 2025 Forecast (dated Jan 9, 2025). Threats of tariffs, threats to Canada & Greenland and ICE activity were already heating up and their forecast sounded like a lot of unmitigated bullshit.

Transcription (emphasis mine):

The U.S. Travel Winter 2025 Forecast projects travel expenditure in the U.S. will continue to grow at normalized rates, driven by resilient consumer spending, sustained business investment and major event promoting international visits.

Looking ahead: For 2025, total U.S. Travel spending is prjected to grow 3.9% to $1.35 trillion, with additional growth to $1.46 trillion (inflation-adjusted) by 2028.

A mega-decade of events could drive record visitation to the U.S. The FIFA 2026 World Cup, America's 250th Anniversary, the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the Men's and Women's Rugby World Cups in 2031 and 2033 and the 2034 Winter Games in Salt Lake City have the potential to bring more visits than ever. U.S. Travel forecasts 8.8% growth for inbound international visits in 2025 and 8.9% growth in 2026.

Growth in international visits to the United States remains an important factor in re-establishing travel as one of our most important exports, with more than $200 billion in international spending projected for 2025.

After I took that screenshot I kept checking from time to time and that forecast remained unchanged for quite a while. They finally updated the forecast to acknowledge some reality, but they are still putting lipstick on the pig:

International Inbound Travel

International inbound travel spending fell 2.4% in 2025 to $175 billion but is expected to rebound 1.6% to $178 billion in 2026. That figure is still 18% below 2019 levels (inflation-adjusted). Growth is projected to accelerate in 2027 and beyond.

Inbound international visits declined 5.5% by volume in 2025 to 68.3 million, driven primarily by reduced visits from Canada. Inbound visits are expected to grow 3.4% to 70.6 million in 2026, driven by leisure travel and supported by major global events, including the World Cup in 2026 and Summer Olympics in 2028. A return to the level of 2019 (79 million visits) is not expected until 2029.

The recovery in 2026 is expected to be uneven across markets. Visits from Canada are projected to increase after a 21% volume decline in 2025.

The pace of international inbound travel recovery remains sensitive to policy conditions, global sentiment and geopolitical stability.

You mean the war (or excursion, as needed) that was the final straw for countries

that had long been our allies? The war (or excursion, as needed) that quickly boosted China’s geopolitical status and fortunes due to their strength in alternative energy? Yeah, I bet Xi was impressed.

You stupid, stupid man.

Screenplay: How To Destroy The United States.

Setting: Early 2015. A gathering of representatives from countries that want to bring down the United States is having a regularly scheduled meeting at an undisclosed location. Agent X is a young representative at his first meeting.

Agent X: Why don’t we just insert someone into the presidency who will interfere with alternative energy development at every opportunity and then, influenced by his own vanity and hubris, start a war that disrupts a large percentage of the world’s oil supply?

Startled silence, followed by loud incredulous laughter.

Agent I: Nobody would be stupid enough to do that! (still laughing)
Agent C: Who let the whelp into this meeting? (shaking head in disbelief)
Agent R: (thick Russian accent) Wait—I know just the person.
