Basically, if youre under 65 and are vaccinated, the chances of dying from COVID are so so minuscule (almost one in a million)
And if youre 65 + over, getting vaccinated cuts the risk by at least 80%

This guy seemed legit, but I have asked him for the original source (CDC or FDA, etc.)
eta: Original source is CDC

White House official on voting rights legislation: "Every constituency has their issue"....
I asked a White House official about those who are frustrated with inaction on voting rights protections. Every constituency has their issue," the official said. "If you ask immigration folks, theyll tell you their issue is a life-or-death issue too.

I understand WHY this official said this. It's easy to be blase' and cynical in Washington. However... this is VOTING RIGHTS legislation, designed to help us maintain our democracy. Help me good DU'ers. I am...confused, to put it politely. I love President Biden and think he has a great team around him. However, I am...confused about this.
Thanks in advance,
Steve
Washington Examiner writer: "(I)t wasn't a real gallows", in reference to the 1/06 insurrection
https://twitter.com/ByronYork/status/1449466599329652739Ok, Mr. "Trump Insurrectionist Mob Defender" York, since I am no expert on gallows, you might be correct.
Who gives a big ugly s***t ? It was the SYMBOLISM that really mattered more. And, by the way, there was a noose in that photo. If they had stuck Pence's head in that noose and kicked his feet out from under him... well...my elementary knowledge of human physiology tells me that, within X seconds, Pence would have died from either strangulation, a broken neck, or both.
"Restoral" : an old word I only learned from my ISP during an outage...
According to http://www.kirkmahoney.com/blog/2008/06/restoral-vs-restoration/ the word restoral has been around since the early 1600's. In contrast, the much more familiar word restoration has been around since 1350.
When my ISP used it to indicate that my service was out and that it would be restored ("Restoral estimated by 0200" ), I thought surely, someone latched onto a fake word and used it. No, it is a real word.
Who knew my greedy, monopoly-aspiring ISP would teach me a new word.
Crazy in AZ: Arizona AG Posts Vid Of Himself Twirling Nunchakus For Some Reason
https://twitter.com/joshtpm/status/1449101876528623618https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/arizona-ag-posts-vid-of-himself-twirling-nunchakus-for-some-reason
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) on Friday tweeted a context-free video of him whirling nunchakus on a rooftop somewhere.
Weve gotten a lot of calls, a lot of emails, Brnovich says at the beginning of the 20-second video without elaborating. But theres one thing people definitely want to see: They want to see more chuks.
The Arizona official proceeds to whip out the nunchakus tucked behind him and swing them around.
People, you want more chuks? he asks with his nunchakus flying about. Ill bring chuks.

Is this supposed to show he is a law-and-order badass ? Just crazy. Gosh, what a surprise he is REPUBLICAN.
My sincere sympathies for the British people, about the murder of Sir David Amess
I may be American, but I can empathize with the shock of the British people at the murder of yet another MP. Sir David Amess may have been an ardent pro-Brexiteer, but I know no one on the anti-Brexit side wanted him murdered in cold blood. Political violence is wrong, if that was the motive. I was sad about Labor MP Jo Cox's murder in 2016 also.
My condolences to his family, and my sympathies to the British people and to the British DU'ers.

Texas just quietly launched a campaign to delete the existence of LGBTQ people
https://www.queerty.com/texas-just-quietly-launched-campaign-delete-existence-lgbtq-people-20211015The New York Times reports that the state scrubbed a resources page for LGBTQ youth from its site after one of Gov. Greg Abbotts Republican primary challengers called it offensive and not in line with good ol fashioned Texas values.
Candidate Don Huffines voiced his outrage over the page in a homophobic video posted to Twitter on August 31.
They are promoting transgender sexual policies to Texas youth! he raged. I mean, really?! This is Texas! These are not Texas values. These are not Republican Party values. But these are obviously Greg Abbotts values.
Hours after Huffines posted the video, the page vanished.

Superintendent for Carroll ISD in Southlake, Tex. apologizes for Holocaust debacle
https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2021/10/15/holocaust-texas-school-books-opposing/During the conversations with teachers, comments made were in no way to convey the Holocaust was anything less than a terrible event in history, Ledbetter said in a statement posted to Facebook. Additionally, we recognize there are not two sides of the Holocaust.
Peddy did not immediately respond to requests for comment early Friday. A spokesperson with the school district shared the statement posted on social media when reached by The Washington Post.
