two kinds of trolls: paid and unpaid
I'm very confident there's at least one paid troll on DU, because it just makes sense from the RNC perspective. Probably more than that. From a conservative and Republican point of view, why not disrupt the largest Democratic Party-oriented (not endorsed or affiliated, of course) on the internet ?
Unpaid trolls, plenty of them. They love to argue (not discuss), be snarky, be disrespectful, get people hidden, and in extreme cases get people PPR'ed. From what I've seen, they are 100% white (or that's what they claim). It was interesting who did not rec my giant thread about welcoming black people back to DU and who did not comment. It's interesting who NEVER recs or positively comments in racism-related threads. It's interesting who never starts a positive racism-related thread. One can judge for oneself from all pieces of evidence.
I'm a white guy also. I also believe in listening and learning. I'm still learning about cultural appropriation versus cultural assimilation, so I'm not commenting on those threads. What I do know is, we white people need to be respectful and listen. We always need to be respectful. You're a good guy, Tobin, and I'm glad you're here. Some of the other white people, imho, need to leave DU. If one cannot respect black people, one needs to leave DU and leave the Democratic Party. It's just that simple.
Aren't you glad you don't live here ?

Last-minute gift idea: 'Miami Vice' Ferrari on eBay for $1.75 million
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/12/24/us-usa-miami-ferrari-idUSKBN0K218E20141224(Reuters) - Procrastinating holiday shoppers can now grab one of Miamis most iconic two-seaters: the all-white 1986 Ferrari Testarossa driven by TV cops "Sonny" Crockett and Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs in the hit 1980s series "Miami Vice."
The car is available on eBay through Jan. 7 and is being offered for $1.75 million by a south Florida pawn and auto loan company. It acquired the car in 2012 from the person who purchased it from the series producer, a department of Universal Studios, in 1991, according to Auto Pawn Plus owner Peter Lima.
This has been in a garage, hidden for almost 30 years, he said.
Ferrari could not be reached to confirm the cars authenticity.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all Floridians!
It seems it will be a somewhat warm one this year.
Enjoy!
Off duty, black cops in New York feel threatened by fellow police officers
From the dingy donut shops of Manhattan to the cloistered police watering holes in Brooklyn, a number of black NYPD officers say they have experienced the same racial profiling that cost Eric Garner his life.
Garner, a 43-year-old black man suspected of illegally peddling loose cigarettes, died in July after a white officer put him in a chokehold. His death, and that of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, has sparked a slew of nationwide protests against police tactics. On Saturday, those tensions escalated after a black gunman, who wrote of avenging the black deaths on social media, shot dead two New York policemen.
The protests and the ambush of the uniformed officers pose a major challenge for New York Mayor Bill De Blasio. The mayor must try to ease damaged relations with a police force that feels he hasnt fully supported them, while at the same time bridging a chasm with communities who say the police unfairly target them.
Whats emerging now is that, within the thin blue line of the NYPD, there is another divide between black and white officers.
Reuters interviewed 25 African American male officers on the NYPD, 15 of whom are retired and 10 of whom are still serving. All but one said that, when off duty and out of uniform, they had been victims of racial profiling, which refers to using race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed a crime.
