steve2470's JournalWhich movie are you eagerly awaiting in the theaters ?
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is mine, debuts in December. Hopefully Star Wars VII next year will be good.
1973: Homosexuality is no longer regarded as "sick"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_and_psychology
The human race does make progress, albeit slowly. Let's rejoice that we have moved on from those very dark days before 1973.
Another brain-dead phishing scam
I won't list the contents of this email but I'll summarize. Supposedly I violated a toll road rule and now owe money for non-payment. Email comes from a .ph domain and the "invoice" comes from a .br domain.
Looks legit to me !
Book recommendation about I/P ?
Can someone recommend ONE good book that thoroughly covers the I/P situation ? I say one, because, knowing myself, I'm not going to read ten books about it. On the other hand, if I finish the one book and I'm still really curious, I can read more.
Thanks for your patience with my sincere query, and have a lovely day.

My desire post-lawsuit vote
I hope DU can moderate its vociferous criticism a tad of President Obama, at least until the November election is over. It's crystal clear to me that the Republicans want to impeach the President in the court of public opinion, and then actually impeach him if they can get away with it.
I guess one can dream.
Eating Disorders Support Group: we don't have one and it's needed
At least I think so. I don't have an eating disorder (besides needing to lose 20 pounds lol), but I know other DU'ers do.
Eating Disorders Support Group would include the following: Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa, Binge eating disorder, Compulsive overeating, and anything else related. See this article.
If you're cool with this idea, please vote for it by responding to this thread. Thank you kindly.
Steve
ETA: The group needs a Statement of Purpose (SOP). Please see fizzgig's post for her ideas and post yours, please. I'm just helping the group get started, I don't need to be a host.
Request for Eating Disorders Support Group, thread already in GD
Thanks Skinner.

MRA versus healthy acknowledgement of male issues
I will state upfront that I'm no expert on the term MRA. That being said, I think one can acknowledge the issues we men face without being an MRA, a sexist or a misogynist.
Let me list a few:
1- Prostate cancer
2- Men as the default fodder for all American wars, justified or not
3- The cult of machismo
4- How to be a good father/brother/husband/son/grandfather/uncle/partner
5- How men deal with mental health issues and feelings
That's just off the top of my head. We men can deal with our issues without being anti-female or anti-feminism. Being a healthy male in American culture is great, but I don't think it's easy, at least not for those of us of my generation.
At any rate, hopefully this thread is constructive and helpful.
ETA: Changed wording of #2 to be less inflammatory.
Florida is broken, and I live here....
I don't think I need to explain why. We're pretty well known for Florida Man and Florida Woman exploits, as well as Governor Voldemort, callous Republicans, a weak Florida Democratic party, denial of the influence of global climate change/global warming upon Miami Beach, etc etc etc.
However...as Trof said about Alabama, it's home. Every state has its beauty and its not so wonderful things, and the same is true of Florida. There are intelligent, well-educated, compassionate and decent people here, and yes, the idiots too. The idiots tend to make the headlines. We decent people just do the best we can to be good to our neighbors and be good citizens.
At any rate, it's home. Heat, humidity, bugs, hurricanes and all, I love the state. We're growing even more purplish and hopefully in the next few years, we will be a BLUE state and not just purple.
Have a lovely summer day and thanks for reading

I'd like to be the host here.....
I promise to be a nice guy and I think my 9 years at DU bears that out.
Everyone cool with that ? If so, I'll talk to Skinner. Thanks !
