Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama took an evening away from politicking Sunday to honor top artists -- and crack some jokes.

Obama received the five Kennedy Center honorees at the White House before the annual gala that honored this year Tom Hanks, Sting, Al Green, Lily Tomlin and ballerina Patricia McBride.

Sting got a presidential mention not just for his chart-topping music career, but also for his stage name.

"Now, not everybody can pull off a name like Sting, but this guy can. His wife, Trudie, calls him Sting. Apparently his kids call him Sting," Obama said to laughs at the White House reception. "'POTUS' is a pretty good nickname -- but let's face it, it's not as cool as Sting. I kind of wish I was called Sting."

a rant, do not read if not in the mood....

WTF is up with people nitpicking at the level of care given to the POTUS ? Of course, it's a no brainer that we ALL here on a progressive board want EVERYONE to have the best possible health care and single payer.

So, until 100% of the USA population gets platinum-level healthcare, the POTUS needs to go to a public health clinic near the White House, sit in the lobby for an hour like the rest of us do, and get that level of healthcare ? THAT MAKES NO GODDAMN SENSE. The guy has one of the most important jobs in the entire country, if not THE most important job. He FUCKING DESERVES the best possible healthcare. Yes, I'd say the exact same thing for a Republican president. Right is right.

Yes, it fucking sucks many of our fellow citizens get crappy or no health care. It also sucks that, yes, some people in the country are still poor. Does that mean President Obama needs to live in a battered shack down by the Potomac ?

Sometimes General Discussion makes me fucking ill. Insane. Disconnected from reality. As Prism said:

Union officials pinch Margaret Thatcher portrait from pub - and photograph it on TOILET seat

Union officials are under fire after they pinched a Margaret Thatcher portrait on a pub crawl - and photographed it on a toilet.

Members of the Scottish branch of the Fire Brigade Union (FBU) stopped to enjoy a drink at Chancellor George Osborne's local, the Red Lion pub in Westminster following a visit to the Houses of Parliament on official business.

But they then "liberated" the oil painting from a shelf above the bar, and took it with them as they carried on drinking at other pubs.

The FBU officials posed for snaps with the painting at the head of the table at a nearby restaurant, and pictured it on a toilet.



Sounds pretty funny to me!
