Cops finally catch Pepper, elusive cat at Kennedy Airport, after owner's pal calls out feline's Mandarin name

http://beta.nydailynews.com/new-york/queens/cops-catch-pepper-elusive-phantom-like-cat-jfk-week-article-1.3960434

The cat's in the bag!

An elusive cat that's been roaming Kennedy Airport for a week after escaping her carrier was finally captured early Saturday after a friend of the owner who spoke the bilingual feline's preferred language was able to coax her out of hiding.

Nuan Tang, a friend of the owner of the cat — named Pepper — who had cared for the animal on occasion joined Port Authority cops on the hunt for the elusive 4-year-old tabby at JFK's international terminal at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Tang had a secret weapon — she knew Pepper's Mandarin name, Dai Meng.

President Trump Will Finally Visit the U.K. but Won't Meet the Queen

http://time.com/5256103/donald-trump-visit-uk/

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump will visit the United Kingdom on July 13 for a “working visit” with Prime Minister Theresa May, the White House said.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced the visit Thursday. A Downing Street spokesperson confirmed the scheduled talks.

Trump’s visit has been anticipated for more than a year, after May was the first foreign leader to be hosted by the president at the White House after his inauguration.

Last year, May proclaimed the strength of the “most special relationship” between the two countries, and the government extended an invitation for a state visit as a guest of Queen Elizabeth II.

Sorry he's coming and I hope he's greeted with massive protests.

Axe throwing venue opening downtown (Orlando)

http://bungalower.com/2018/04/26/axe-throwing-venue-opening-downtown/

I mean, what could go wrong ? Alcohol (and probably cannabis/other drugs-infused) patrons and an axe! Fun for the entire family, especially if you have to dodge!

A new type of event venue will be opening in Downtown Orlando this summer, one that focuses on throwing stuff.

Epic Axe Throwing (Website) is a throwing range for axe-tossing enthusiasts aged 14 and up. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Due to liability concerns, you are not allowed to bring your own axe to this venue. You can only use axes supplied by Epic Axe Throwing personnel, which all weigh under three pounds. So leave your ninja stars at home.

This will be a cashless facility and they are only accepting credit cards. Prices have not been posted yet.

In all fairness, if they are SMART, they will be extremely strict about throwing the damn things in ONE direction with no one nearby, but that's assuming a lot. I'd hate to be their lawyer.

eta: I looked at the website and I see no bar, so that's GOOD imho. Maybe they can pull this off with no problems. We shall see.

James Shaw Jr., who grabbed the scalding barrel of an AR-15 to take it away from a gunman in Nashville who massacred four people and shot two others at a Waffle House on Sunday, has already raised more than $16,000 for the victims of the rampage.

Police are on the hunt for suspected shooter Travis Reinking, 29, who allegedly killed Taurean C. Sanderlin, 29; Joe R. Perez, 20; Deebony Groves, 21; and Akilah Dasilva, 23.

Shaw, who has been hailed as a hero by witnesses and authorities alike, created a GoFundMe account for those injured in the shooting, in which a nearly naked Reinking allegedly started shooting at a Waffle House at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

“Please take the time to donate as all of the proceeds will be given to the families,” Shaw, 29, wrote on the page. “Thank you again for your generosity and blessings!”

eta: Now up to $117,705 of $15,000 goal

GoFundme fund for the Waffle House hero (James Shaw) and his family

https://www.gofundme.com/help-the-waffle-house-hero

According to news reports, James has a four-year-old daughter. Perhaps this money can be used for her college fund or some other education related expense. But I'd be just as happy if James used some of this money to take his family on a nice vacation.

Funds will be transferred directly to James Shaw Jr. through GoFundMe.

The Original Snake Oil Was Effective At Treating?

https://www.howtogeek.com/trivia/the-original-snake-oil-was-effective-at-treating/?show (for the question)

The answer is at the link below:

https://www.howtogeek.com/trivia/the-original-snake-oil-was-effective-at-treating/?answer=2

Arthritis.

Today, the term “snake oil” is a code for fraud. Politicians accuse other politicians of selling “snake oil promises”, a fraudulent businessman is referred to as a snake oil salesman, and since the early 20th century, the term has been completely and utterly entangled in the idea of fake cures and shady business practices. But why? Why not “horse meat salesman” or any other term? The history of the term is fascinating if, for no other reason, than once upon a time snake oil was actually an effective treatment.

In the 19th century, Chinese workers flooded into the American West to help build the massive railway network that supported the influx of workers, commerce, and the development of the frontier lands. They brought bottles of snake oil with them, specifically, oil rendered from the fat of the Chinese water snake. This literal snake oil was rich in omega-3 acids and the Chinese workers would rub it on their joints to help stave off the pain of arthritis, bursitis, and muscle inflammation. When American workers tried it for the same ailments, they were amazed that the oil did, in fact, penetrate into their aching muscles and joints to bring relief from the pain.

It wasn’t long, naturally, before American businessmen tried to cash in on the treatment and create their own snake oil. Alas, rattlesnakes and other snakes abundant in the West weren’t as rich in omega-3 acids as the Chinese water snake is and the resulting American-produced snake oils weren’t particularly effective. Not only that, but the Americans selling the snake oil quickly began making outlandish claims about it. While the original and radically more effective Chinese water snake oil was good at reducing inflammation, the American snake oil salesmen claimed their oils could cure headaches, help with menstrual cramps, fix up ailing kidneys, and every other ailment under the sun including, but not limited to, frostbite and balding.

By the time the early 20th century rolled around, the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 gave the government legislative clout to put an end to such fraudulent medicines. At that point, however, the term “snake oil” was forever linked with the matter and waves of Western films in the early to mid-20th century further cemented the idea of snake oil and the nefarious snake oil salesman into the America psyche.

Boy borrows parents credit card to embark on four-day holiday to Bali by himself

http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/warnings/boy-borrows-parents-credit-card-to-embark-on-fourday-holiday-to-bali-by-himself/news-story/849359a4fe18292b6334bd383952e98a

THE mother of a 12-year-old boy who stole her credit card and flew by himself to Bali has lashed back at accusations she is a bad parent, saying “we didn’t fail … people failed us”.

The boy, who gave the name of Drew, made international headlines after he brazenly took mum Emma’s credit card and used it to buy flights to Bali, where he stayed for days before being caught.

Drew flew with Jetstar from Sydney to Perth, and then boarded an international flight to Bali’s Denpasar airport, after two unsuccessful attempts to fly with Qantas and Garuda Airlines.

Once in Bali, the 12-year-old managed to check into a hotel, hire and ride a scooter and drink beer on the beach while his parents back in Sydney searched desperately for him.

'Your computer has a virus' cold call con artists on the rise: Microsoft

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/04/23/tech_support_scams_on_the_rise/

Microsoft has released stats showing that tech support scams are on the increase, with 153,000 complaints received and 15 per cent of complainants losing cold, hard cash.

For those who have been fortunate enough not to be subject to one, a tech support scam is typically where a ne'er-do-well will call up a user, usually claiming to be from Microsoft, and talk the victim through a number of steps that will result in something scary happening on the user’s screen and a fee being paid to resolve the ‘problem’.

Microsoft has published statistics from its own customer services team showing complaints up 24 per cent on 2016’s figures, with users who actually paid up losing between $200 and $400.

Among the people from 183 countries that ran to Microsoft with complaints was one unfortunate Dutch user that lost €89,000 after a scammer was able to empty their bank accounts.

*end of excerpt*

Needless to say, do not EVER engage with anyone from "Microsoft" (unless you want to troll them hard). The only exception to this is if you know, for a fact 100%, you are actually talking to someone from Microsoft because you are PAYING them for a support call. It used to be $35 per support incident but I'm sure that has gone up now. To even get to that service, I think you must go here first:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contact/virtual-agent/?flowId=smc-home-hero&referrer=support.microsoft.com

You jump through all the virtual hoops there and you can either wait for a phone call or schedule one.

eta:

Am I entitled to no-charge support when I purchase a full packaged product?

Microsoft no-charge support (also known ‘warranty’ support) applies to full packaged products targeted at the home user as well as desktop applications (such as Microsoft Office), desktop operating systems (such as Microsoft Windows) and developer tools (including Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and MSDN Subscriptions). You may be eligible for assisted support in the form of two telephone or online support incidents at no charge.

With Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 you may be eligible to 90-day no-charge assisted support. This no-charge support begins from the date you activate the product.

To check your entitlement, telephone your local support centre, or submit your technical support incident online via the Microsoft Support Site. You can also visit the Support Website for information about Microsoft support offerings and self-help support resources.

These resources are designed to carry the minimum level of jargon.
