Morning Digest: Yes, Sarah Palin's flirting with a House bid--but don't expect her to actually run
By Daily Kos Staff
● AK-AL: Republican Lt. Gov. Kevin Meyer, who serves as Alaskas top election official, announced Tuesday that the special primary to succeed the late Rep. Don Young as the states lone House member will take place on June 11. The contest, which will be conducted entirely by mail, will be the first election in American history to use the states new top-four primary rules. Under this system, the four candidates who take the most votes in June, regardless of party, will face off in an instant-runoff general election on Aug. 16. The filing deadline is April 1, so Youngs many would-be successors have just a short amount of time to decide whether to run.
To complicate matters, Aug. 16 is the same day as the regularly scheduled statewide primary election, which, until Youngs death, was to have been the first time that Alaska employed a top-four primary. (Unlike in the special primary, voters will be able to vote in person that day.) Another instant-runoff race will take place in November, this time for a full two-year term in the next Congress. The filing deadline for the regular election is June 1, so anyone who wants to replace Young for longer than just a few months would need to file before they learn how they did in the first round of the special election.
This will be the very first congressional race in the state without an incumbent running since Young himself first was elected in a 1973 special election, and it could bring out some notable names. Two were already running: Businessman Nick Begich III, who is the rare Republican member of one of the Last Frontiers most prominent Democratic families, and Democrat Chris Constant, a member of the Anchorage Assembly, had both entered the race against Young before his death on Friday, and they've since confirmed theyll now campaign in both the special and regular contests.
(snip)
As for potential candidates on the Republican side, former Gov. Sarah Palin said Monday of Young, If I were asked to serve in the House and take his place, I would be humbled and honored and I would in a heartbeat, I would. Palin, though, has flirted with running for office in Alaska several times since her abrupt resignation in 2009 halfway through her one term as governor, but she has yet to ever go for it.

Stop Waiting for Trump to Get Convicted (The Atlantic)
As much as I want to throw this opinion piece on the trash heap, too much of it makes sense. I just hope it's not the way things end up.
Attorney General Merrick Garland is not going to save democracy. Nor is the attorney general of New York, Letitia James; the Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg; nor the Fulton County district attorney, Fani Willis. As the apparent collapse of the New York district attorneys investigation makes clear, criminal cases are hard to make. Donald Trump, despite his many seemingly criminal acts, is unlikely to ever spend a day in jail.
Observers of the Trump malignancy have an unfortunate habit of wish castingbelieving that their most optimistic fantasies will become reality. They did this with the Mueller investigationremember Its Mueller Time?and they did it with both of Trumps impeachments. Their dream has always been that somehow, somewhere, someone would call Trump to account for his actions and, in doing so, save American democracy.
Today, many invest the ongoing criminal investigations of Trump in New York, Georgia, and Washington, D.C., with the same hopes. Even my good friend George Conway has speculated that this time things might be different.
I dont see it happening. Please dont misunderstand; I am as convinced as anyone of the criminality of Trumps conduct, and nothing would please me more than to see him get his deserved comeuppance. He should, and very well may, be indicted in one or more of these jurisdictions. And the civil suits against him may have legs.

The Max Fleischer Superman cartoons
There was something magical about these when I watched them in the '50s. They still are tremendous. And I'm happy for the critical acclaim they've received.
Here's all of them. (And the aspect ratio hasn't been messed with.) Enjoy.
Joe Cocker and Mad Dogs & Englishmen - Live at Fillmore East (two full sets)
This was such a great collection of musicians and singers. Leon Russell, Bobby Keys, Claudia Lennear, Rita Coolidge, Chris Stainton, Bobby Jones, Jim Gordon, Jim Keltner and more.
Here are two sets they performed.

Albert King - Blues Power

I saw BB King sing this live one night in Oakland CA about the same time as this video, I think. He was part of a large group of performers, among them Charlie Mingus and Gladys Knight and the Pips (the headliners).
But anyway, he sings this and he's really vamping it up for the crowd, who clearly adores him. When he got to the line, "I gave you seven children," the crowd literally screamed, "AND NOW YOU WANNA GIVE 'EM BACK!" It was an unforgettable moment.
