Oxford shooter's parents get 10-15 years in prison for roles in massacre

OXFORD, Mich. – James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of the Oxford High School shooter, have been sentenced to 10-15 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.

An Oakland County judge on Tuesday, April 9 handed down sentences for the Oxford shooter’s parents, who were each found guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter this year. The Crumbleys will each serve 10-15 years in prison for their role in the Nov. 30, 2021, shooting that left four children dead and seven people injured.

It’s the first time parents of a U.S. school shooter have ever been charged, convicted, and sentenced in connection with the shooting.

At two separate trials this year, jurors found James and Jennifer Crumbley guilty of gross negligence that contributed to the mass shooting carried out by their son. Prosecutors had long sought to prove -- and reiterated at Tuesday’s hearing -- that the shooter’s parents were grossly negligent over a period of time leading up to the shooting, and failed to intervene.

18.7 MILLION 🔥

https://twitter.com/CaitlinClark22/status/1777443242729980395

BREAKING: The Iowa-South Carolina national championship game averaged 18.7 million viewers.

That makes it the most watched basketball game — men's or women's, college or professional — in five years.

What a MASSIVE month for women's basketball.

For additional context, 18.7 million viewers is 4 million more viewers than last year's men's national championship game.

It's an incredible, incredible number.

Architect of the Capitol: Statue of Freedom and today's partial eclipse. 🌘

https://twitter.com/uscapitol/status/1777446217003212898

Statue of Freedom is a classical female figure with long, flowing hair wearing a helmet with a crest composed of an eagle's head and feathers. She wears a classical dress secured with a brooch inscribed "U.S." Over it is draped a heavy, flowing, toga-like robe fringed with fur and decorative balls. Her right hand rests upon the hilt of a sheathed sword wrapped in a scarf; in her left hand she holds a laurel wreath of victory and the shield of the United States with 13 stripes.

The helmet is encircled by nine stars. Ten bronze points tipped with platinum are attached to her headdress, shoulders and shield for protection from lightning. She stands on a cast-iron pedestal topped with a globe encircled with the motto E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, one). The lower part of the pedestal is decorated with fasces (symbols of the authority of government) and wreaths. The pedestal is 18-1/2 feet high and almost doubles the total height. The crest of Freedom’s headdress rises 288 feet above the East Front Plaza.

Statue of Freedom does not wear or hold a knitted liberty cap, as would have been expected in nineteenth-century art. The knit cap provided to freed slaves in ancient Rome had been adopted as the symbol of liberty or freedom during the American and French Revolutions and was usually shown as red. The Statue of Freedom's crested helmet and sword, suggesting she is prepared to protect the nation, are more commonly associated with Minerva or Bellona, Roman goddesses of war. The history of the statue's design explains why she wears a helmet rather than a liberty cap. The story of her casting reveals that some of the people who worked to create Freedom were not themselves free.

NEW and very disturbing:

Straight out of Putin’s talking points and out of RFK Jr.’s mouth — here he is saying Putin merely wanted to “de-nazify” Ukraine. Literally pure Putin propaganda for the invasion and war of Ukraine.

Pelosi joins call to halt U.S. weapons transfers to Israel

Source: Axios

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) signed onto a call by progressive members of Congress for the U.S. to stop transferring weapons to Israel over a strike that killed seven aid workers in Gaza.

Why it matters: It's a significant break with Israel by a long-standing supporter that underscores growing fissures between Democrats and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

Driving the news: The letter, led by Reps. Mark Pocan (D-Wisc.), Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), was released on Friday with 37 signatures from 37 other Democrats, including Pelosi.

"In light of the recent strike against aid workers and the ever-worsening humanitarian crisis, we believe it is unjustifiable to approve these weapons transfers," the lawmakers wrote to President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Home Tour - Longbranch House by mwworks

Tucked away in the forests of the Key Peninsula, in rural Washington, U.S.A, lies a tranquil retreat designed by Seattle-based design studio mwworks.

With a profound connection spanning more than 35 years to the Key Peninsula, a couple of Seattle locals approached mwworks to design a home on a neglected patch of land overlooking the water. They envisioned a quiet and secluded place for themselves, their foster dogs, and friends and family that resonated with the serene beauty of the landscape. Renowned for their work in the rural areas of Washington, mwworks rose to the occasion by fashioning a home so deeply immersed in its surroundings that it completely eludes notice unless deliberately sought out.
