the replacements - swingin' party & here comes a regular (studio - 1986)

if bein' afraid is a crime we hang side by side ... at the swingin' party down the line ...

There's not a whole lotta songs I revere more than this one ...

Although this one, the other side's closing track ... is on equal ground ... very first song I ever learned to play and sing at the same time ...

I have a bit of advice for dog (and cat) lovers ... check out Dog Food Advisor

https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/

It's mostly about dog food but the same principles apply to cat foods. The guy who does the reviews is VERY knowledgeable and explains things well. You'll learn a TON about how to read a pet food label, what constitutes quality ingredients, and what constitutes cheap, toxic CRAP. Start out by looking up what you now feed your pet. Should be able to find something in the same 'line', even if it's not the same 'flavor'.

You'll be amazed to find that there's some brands out there that call themselves 'Premium' and charge Premium prices ... but are actually barely better than Purina Chow (cough ... Royal Canin ... cough ... Science Diet).

First, most surprising fact you might learn? 'REAL (MEAT) IS FIRST INGREDIENT!' ... is not actually a mark of a good food (though it still may be, depends what else is there).

REAL (MEAT) MEAL is actually much better.

And that's just the start

Not affiliated in ANY way, I just learned so much from that site.

Weather in AZ is freaking trippy today man ... 10 years I been here, never seen this ...

Usually rain here is very off/on, I've rarely seen > 4 hrs straight of rain.

And the sky is normally cloudy when it rains here, like you can see the rain clouds.

But today, since about 6am (8:30pm now) it literally has NOT STOPPED RAINING for any more than 2-3 minutes at most. Hasn't rained HARD, but there's been times it came down pretty good, but all in all it's just incredibly steady.

And the sky? There's no discernible clouds ... it's like someone sprayed the entire sky with Grey spray-paint.

And there's just been this steady, 3-4 MPH shifting wind, all day ... no gusts, but also never entirely calm. Just this slow, shifting breeze.

And it's freaking COLD (for Arizona) ... I keep expecting it to start snowing, though it's clearly not THAT cold, it feels almost like it's cold enough.

It really seems like a nuclear winter would feel.

The REAL 'genius' of the Anti-Vaxxers isn't going to be seen for another 5-10 years ...

When they start looking forward to their precious grandchildren, and THEN ... ooops!

Mr L's Saturday Night Dinner ... Whole Chicken on the Barbie ...

I cleaned the excess skin, clipped the wingtips, spatchcocked her, brushed w/Olive Oil, dusted the outside with my dried 'Scarborough Fair' mix (do I have to tell ya?), cracked black pepper & kosher salt, and then shoved sprigs of fresh Thyme under her skin. She's cooking (indirect, of course) in the Weber Kettle, with soaked Oak and Hickory in the smoker box laid atop the coals.

Tonight I'm just eatin' barbeque chicken with a baked potato with butter/sc/chives, and some corn. Nothing too fancy.

But on the stove I got chicken soup brewing. Got the neck and back and wing tips in the pot, along with celery, carrot, italian parsley, 1/2 head of garlic, 5 green onions (just the thick part), a whole shallot ... seasoned with pepper corns, whole coriander, bay leaves, and a buncha fresh thyme. Letting that simmer for a bit then will refrigerate.

Tomorrow I'll strain it, put all the rest o' the bones from the chicken into it and simmer 4 more hours or so. Then strain again ... then cook in fresh carrot, celery, peas, some kinda starch ... noodles or potato most likely ... maybe orzo if I motivate to hit the store ... then shred in the remaining Hickory-Oak smoked barbeque chicken ... and have soup for the week.

Probably set a bit o' the meat aside and make a bit of chicken salad outta that, instead of putting it in the soup ... now that I think of it.

What are YOU making (or made) tonight?

greg holden - the lost boy (studio - 2011) - may they be found and reunited ...

I left my home still as a child
I walked a thousand sorry miles
To wait for my father to gather up his tools
He said my boy you've got to run
Don't wait for me, don't wait for mum
We'll come get you when it's safe for us to move

So I waited many years
Held back the pain behind my tears
For my father to come find me like he said
In that time I was alone
So many years without my home
I made brothers of a different kind instead

At the time I didn't know
Just how hard the wind could blow
Towards disaster, and the things that I would see
I never found my father
I never found my mother
Either will not know that in my lifetime I will be

A hero to the masses
To those born without chances
There's a freedom that everyone deserves
I know there's greed and there's corruption
I've seen death and mass destruction
But I'm telling you and I hope that I am heard

I will not be commanded
I will not be controlled
I will not let my future go on, without the help of my soul

Man, the lack of knowledge on how to properly post links on DU really gets under my skin, sorry ...

Respected Friends ... if you're posting a link, and there's a ? mark character it it ... then the ? mark, and everything to the right of it ... is totally extraneous, and should be removed before posting the link.

Unless, you REALLY want the outlet from which you copied the link to get $$$ for everyone following the link from DU.

Apologies to the member who just posted this, no offense, cause almost everyone does this.

Compare these two links:
https://www.nj.com/politics/2019/01/a-republican-nj-lawmaker-just-switched-parties-heres-why-shes-now-a-democrat.html?utm_campaign=njdotcom_sf&utm_content=nj_twitter_njdotcom&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

https://www.nj.com/politics/2019/01/a-republican-nj-lawmaker-just-switched-parties-heres-why-shes-now-a-democrat.html

Note that both of these links 'work' exactly the same (although your address bar shows different info when you reach the site). However, the FORMER ... makes money for Twitter when we use it here on DU. The latter ... does not.

I'm not saying Twitter gets paid instead of DU, cause in fact it doesn't look like DU makes any attempt to get paid for click-thru's from what I can tell, but there's really no need for Twitter to get paid, is there?

This also applies in cases where you post JPG/PNG/GIF files, or Youtube videos, or whatever. In those cases you get a bunch of crap characters showing up after the picture or video on DU, and it just looks ugly, and adds nothing.

Everything that's in a link, from the question mark to the right of it ... if there is a ?, is EXTRANEOUS, and should be removed IMHO, when posting links. That is information coming from (wherever you copied it from) ... trying to get paid when their links are shared.

Also, for the Love of Dog, if your link says 'Google' in it ... you're almost surely doing it way wrong.

u2 - beautiful day, mlk, where the streets have no name (live - 2002 - super bowl)

Just because ... Well, Patriots/Rams ... and cause I never tire of watching these 11 minutes of perfection in rock and roll and United States history colliding ... it's first Super Bowl after 9/11 ... and Bono and the lads just absolutely own the moment, and IMHO, this was really a turning point in the grieving process for our Nation ... the denouement of the show still makes my eyes well up, cause I remember the feeling of that time so well.

Enjoy ...
