Hugh_Lebowski's JournalIf you like Robbie Robertson's first solo album, with its U2/Americana vibe
And you've never heard the late Chris Whitley's debut album Living With the Law, man did you miss out!
I've had the CD since it came out in 1990 or so, produced by Malcolm Burn, keyboard player for Daniel Lanois' band back then ... it had 8 bona-fide freaking GREAT songs on it, and the production is just killer. I know every word to most of the songs, this lost gem is woven into the very fabric of my being, not kidding.
Chock full of Chris's work on a Resonator (National) guitar and searing leads, with poignant lyrics and powerful vocals ... it's absolutely badass, and WAY underappreciated.
Pro-tip: This album sounds better the louder ya play it
It's not that I have a particular thing against 'religion', it's that religions are unscientific
When I scoff at the idea of a 'God' or a 'Savior' or an 'Afterlife', it's really just a part of the many things I reject on the basis of their being unprovable, and frankly illogical.
God(s), Heaven, Hell, Afterlives, Souls, Spirits, Angels, Devils, Witches, Warlocks, People with ESP, Psychics, Leprechauns, Unicorns, the healing power of crystals ... it's all exactly the same category of 'thing' to me. Sorry
Because imagined supernatural shit like this does not exist. Or at minimum, there's zero evidence for ANY of it.
I know a lot of people 'believe in these things', but that doesnt make them real, it just makes me think those people are at least somewhat delusional.
And someone who professes a belief in the Christian God to me is no different from someone who believes Zeus lives on Mt. Olympus, and casts fire-bolts in the form of lighting, or that Ra pulls the sun across the sky.
None of these ideas or concepts deserve any special imprimatur from me, and I refuse to grant it, though if I love you I may go along with it out of courtesy
Edit: Just wanted to add ... in my book, the closest thing to magic, that's basically 'real'?
Is 'Creativity'.
Creativity borders on magic in a lot of ways, but doesn't quite cross the threshold into it, from my view, but it's an impressive simulation of what magic would look like, if it were real.
Yosemite National Park closed after winter storm dumps 15 feet of snow
Indefinitely, even ...
Good news ... we need ALL the snow! The Valley with snow on all the trees is SOOOO beautiful too.

The park was closed on Saturday and as of Wednesday, there was no estimated date for reopening.
In a posted announcement, park officials said "Park crews are working to restore critical services so visitors can safely return."
A major winter storm hit the park on Saturday, bringing with it heavy snow that blocked roadways. Travel on all park roads was restricted to administrative traffic only.
