In reply to the discussion: Second US Capitol police officer has died [View all]he could have been distraught about people assuming they were complicit when in reality they were outnumbered and could do nothing to stop the horde. It would be devastating enough to feel like you failed, and then to be accused of complicity on top of it.
Many possible explanations.
