(7,922 posts)You pry the can to break the seal, and then put the point under the slit and pry around the circumference of the can slicing through the lid? I remember this from watching old Popeye cartoons! That's the classic, but many people don't use them because it creates sharp edges on the can lid.
That works, but in lieu of that, even a normal manual rotary twist can opener fits easier into a storage kit than an electric can opener!
They even have those ones that you attach to the lid and twist the key and it goes around and unseals the lid where it's actually replaceable.
That's the thing about Doomsday prep: You cannot count on any resources such as electricity or natural gas. In the short term there are campstove propane tanks, but anything that require gas or electricity could quickly become useless.
Even those "food buckets" usually require hot water or that's going to be some gloopy cold mush.
