(7,604 posts)... all elections are won AT THE MARGINS. There will always be die-hard Trumpers/fascists. They wouldn't budge if Trump grew a Nazi-leader mustache and wore swastika arm bands. The Dems are looking to blow a hole into Trump's independent voter/supporters. They're looking at the marginal swing voter and their walking away from the Trump movement.
Recent polls show that the GOP accounts for about 30% of the entire electorate. About one-third of those voters are die-hard Trumper fascists who are very loud and extreme. But they amount to about 16-18% of THE ENTIRE REGISTERED VOTING POPULATION. So that means that there is a rich and varied 82% of registered voters who are persuadable and who can be "harvested" as votes against a Trumper slate of candidates. It's those voters, the vast majority of voters, who are the focus of the Dems' (and a few GOPers') efforts to build a narrative that will ensure Democratic control of Congress. The J6 hearings in June can turn into the main reason that the GOP loses big in November. And those big losses can occur without DOJ indictments, which will likely be issued before the election.
The conventional wisdom that includes mid-term successes by the minority party won't hold this time around BECAUSE of the attempted coup. And the J6 Committee is dedicated to the notion that they will not allow the US public to forget what happened in all of its detail.
