(50,257 posts)Earlobes are flexible cartilage. They don't have bone to transmit shockwaves. A nick on the ear takes out a little chunk and the earlobe bends back without shattering.
Everybody thinks of the photos of bullets penetrating and exploding apples and watermelons. Those photos are all made with centre-on gunshots, completely unlike a graze. Apples and watermelons have stiff innards that transmit the shock waves. A direct head-on hit's energy has nowhere to go except forward through the mass. When it reaches the exit hole of the bullet it reaches a new weak point and everything energized is released out through the breech.
Plastic and wood debris are shards that slice through skin but do not take chunks out.
The photographs of the ear, showing a bit of white cartilage and a strand of hair, and of the bullet in flight just past his ear are all consistent with the video.
That tRump has not released his medical records of the incident is puzzling but only leads to conjecture and is not evidence. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
