I did see all the grousing and gnashing of teeth by those in the "step aside" camp, including from Obama's orbit such as David Axelrod. I didn't find anything relating to Obama himself or his supposed thoughts on the matter.
And I didn't find any statement about Biden stepping down this weekend. If you can find that article and post a link, I'd appreciate it.
I did find a quote from today from Biden's deputy campaign manager:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/18/biden-dnc-nomination
When it comes to if hes open or being receptive to any of that, look, the president has said it several times: hes staying in this race, Quentin Fulks, the Biden campaign deputy manager, told reporters on the sidelines of the Republican national convention in Milwaukee.
Our campaign is not working through any scenarios where President Biden is not at the top of the ticket, he added.
As well as his quote from today in the Washington Post:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/07/18/obama-says-biden-must-consider-viability/
Principal deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks said Thursday morning that Bidens campaign was moving ahead. He is not wavering on anything, Fulks said. The president has made his decision. I dont want to be rude, but I dont know how many more times we can answer that.[/excerpt]
That doesn't sound like he's stepping down this weekend to me.
