3. You probably know this, but for those that don't, Musk didn't name the company to begin with.

Tesla was founded in 2003, by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. They served as chief executive officer and chief financial officer, respectively.

Musk came along the next year and got his foot in the door by buying $6.5 million worth of shares in February of '04. That was enough to get him a seat on the board at the head of the table. So he bought his way into the firm.
