(3,133 posts)Biden's willingness to step aside in this election is one of the most noble acts of the modern political era and might be the most important single political decision of my lifetime . He's a classic example of a president who faces serious challenges, and rises to them perfectly. And he's been surprisingly effective at advancing the business of our country during a time where that is almost impossible due to complete Republican dysfunction. He's a highly effective and humble guy. If the media were worth anything, they'd be talking about that instead of his age.
Obama went to the mat to get some kind of healthcare overhaul done, and return the US to some kind of normalcy after the Bush years. He also did a lot to stop the financial crash from destroying our country, which seems largely forgotten now. WRT electoral politics he set the example for Democratic leaders post-2000 and defined a winning frame for our party. My main complaint with Obama was that he didn't seem willing to understand how bad the Republican party was getting. He treated them like they were operating in good faith even as Rush Limbaugh told his audience "I hope he [Obama] fails" during the first year of his presidency. And they made him pay for his charitable posture. But you could also argue that he had to try, so that he could prove that compromise wasn't an option.
In my view Obama is the most naturally gifted politician of my lifetime, and Biden has presided over an especially difficult time, and been especially effective. Both men put our country first in a way that the Rs only talk about. I'm glad to be a part of the party that elevated these men. No Republican since Eisenhower has held a candle to either of them.
