18. Oh man. I will have to be brave

Don't know how I'll live without Amazon. I knew I should given it up when he bashed unions. Before that, independent book sellers. Besides my friend who works for them in horrific conditions. But I couldn't find what I wanted at other sites. This must finally be the line. If I want WaPost jounalists to give up their jobs, I can live with a little inconvenience.

Can some businesses step up please? You don't have to sell everything, books is enough. It can't just be those of us willing to suffer, for this to succeed there has to be a viable alternative. There are millions of us ready to sign up.
We also need to replace Twitter and the Washington Post. I know this is easier said than done, but the model that works is out there and a ready clientelle.

Years ago I chose a socially conscious cell phone service--Working Assets, now Credo mobile, until we moved to a place that didn't get their service well enough. We caved in to my teenage daughter who had to have it. But while it lasted it felt great to patronize a company with morals. I'm going to revisit it--see if they've improved their range. How great it feels to patronize corporations with a conscience.

If we fund the oligarchs, the oligarchs win.

I'm not so sure. Are there any photos of Fred's 'stache in the late 30's? JHB Oct 2024 #7
I just did an image search. YMMV. usonian Oct 2024 #8
Wish I could find the date on this one. Does seem to be pre-war, from his apparent age JHB Oct 2024 #10

Yes, of course a 60s or 70s photo wouldn't line up, but see #10 above. JHB Oct 2024 #13
