(3,354 posts)Just saying "I'm not Trump" isn't going to move the people who need moving. It's a statement of what one is not and what one will not do. That doesn't inspire or motivate. To inspire or motivate, one must offer a vision and plan of what one is and will do. Define oneself on a positive rather than a negative.
The Average Joe and Jane aren't keyed into politics like we here on DU are. They awaken from their political coma every couple years for midterms (maybe) or every four years for presidential elections (more likely), but for the most part, politics to them is an annoying background hum that they mostly ignore. Given the vast impact politics has on every aspect of life these days, that's a silly position to take... but that doesn't stop millions of Americans from taking it.
The trick is to cut through that annoying background hum to inspire, motivate, and activate those voters, and I just don't think "we're not Trump" is going to do the trick.
To be clear, this is not a criticism of HRC or Harris or anyone else. This is a broader assessment of how we need to communicate with a large slice of the electorate that is generally disengaged from politics, and I think that's what this person on BlueSky was getting at. Or at least, that's how I'm interpreting it. Your mileage may vary.
