(72,664 posts)My USAF dad was flying back and forth to Viet Nam during the war.
We were overseas.
One day he was ready to go to the flight line to fly out on TDY to DaNang.
I was shocked to see a gun in a holster on a belt around his waist over his flight suit.
I asked him what it was, he said in case his plane got shot down, all the men had been
issued a gun. To fight off the enemy.
People in the USAF didn't carry guns. Except the MPs.
I was a young teen, and I could clearly see that the gun was fairly small.
It would not defend against anyone. And I knew the air crews most likely
could not hit the broad side of a barn and had been given no lessons.
And in an instant I understood what the gun was really for.
I said nothing, everything was classified and we didn't talk about things like this.
Yes the release of classified war plans is beyond irresponsible.
