15. You seem to be hung up on the militia part and not the assassinations and their impact on the protests part.

I'm not, because the former (conjecture, as you yourself pointed out) has nothing to do with the latter (it's factual truth that the assassinations not only drew attention away from the protests but also impacted their attendance in the state where the killings took place).

Whether that was the murderer's motive or not, (1) it is a logical conclusion to draw based on the facts as we know them right now and (2) it certainly is what ended up happening.
